    TD4 'proper' oil capacity

Knowing whether it is over or under 5l will determine if I buy 1 or 2 containers of oil, ballpark amount will do and i'll level off via the dipstick when off the ramps.....

    TD4 'proper' oil capacity

TD4 is due an oil change, but recall that I overfilled it the last time due to the official spec oil capacity being too much. Can someone remind me what the proper capacity is? The search function isn't working for me hence the question.....cheers.

    Headlamp bulbs

I wouldn't bother with the cheap ebay xenon lookalikes. I bought a set for about a fiver and they were no different from standard. You would be better shelling out for the Philips Extreme bulbs (at about £15 a pair on ebay) - noticeable difference, nice sharper bright white beam which is better...

    Insulating boot storage from condensation

Ok thanks, i'll give it a further check around the seals....I never lock the cubby and since the lock was damaged anyway I just removed the lock assembly which gives some useful ventilation. The carpets around the lid always seem to be dry so i'm perplexed how it could be an external leak, but...

    Insulating boot storage from condensation

I've got the usual problem with water in the boot cubby, pretty sure it is condensation related (exhaust) rather than a seal leak. Has anyone tried to insulate the cubby from heat off the exhaust? I think perhaps a heat shield or perhaps some adhesive insulating material applied to the underside?

    what tyres should i buy

If yer going off the tarmac, go for 215/80/15 ATs which will give you about an inch lift - i've stuck a set of toyo 785 all terrains on and they are good on and off road.

    TD4 Manual Clutch Slipping

My garage just fitted OE freelander clutch, slave and bearing for £650. Car is now transformed.

    Clutch kit required - TD4

The time has come for clutch replacement - managed to get a year out of my 2003 TD4 since I bought it last January, but 1st & reverse are now getting quite tricky.....the master cylinder was replaced about 6 months ago as a 'may as well try it' quick replacement, however I need to get the clutch...

Just did - now resemble the guy in your avatar:D - Thanks Missing Link - confirms what I thought.

    Off-road tyres

I stuck on a set of Toyo 785 all-terrains in 215/80/15 - good chunky tread and give about an inch lift. I use these on the road too, but they give great grip on snow and fields.

Gaylanders are great in the snow

I've got a set of Toyo 205/80/15 all-terrains on my 'lander, nice chunky tread and i've been enjoying throwing it about in the snow - just canny seem to get it to lose traction:D One daft question - when the drive transfers onto the rear axle, is there any sure-fire way of knowing when its on 4...

    cold start. smoke

I had very same problem in my 03 TD4 - original suspicion was glow plugs, which the local garage 'diagnosed' and replaced - to no avail. Turned out it was a leaking injector.

    Advice on freelander steel wheels

That sounds about right - this is a useful converter here if changing wheel/tyre size - Car / SUV / Van / Light Truck Tire Calculations Since I've moved from 215/65/16 to 215/80/15, for every 2 miles my car travels it now under-reads the distance by 0.1 mile. Bugger if you are claiming mileage...

    Advice on freelander steel wheels

I've just fully refurbished a set of 15" steels (same as above) with black hammerite and they look good. I stuck on a full set of Toyo 785 All Terrain tyres (215/80/15), these are great on the road - having said that, I'm fairly deaf so any road noise isn't really a huge issue. The Toyos were...

    03 TD4 hesitancy at 60-70+

Thanks, that's good to know. I'm mentally narrowing it down to possibly the boost solenoid, but hopefully the diagnostic test should uncover it or even give a pointer....I replaced the wheelarch pump a few months ago, it's failure symptoms were no-start but when you gave it a bash it jumped into...

    03 TD4 hesitancy at 60-70+

Thanks. Definitely not MAF - unplugged it and it's still behaving badly with MIL on and off quite a lot now - seems to be getting worse. I'll try and check the turbo connections etc. My friend has some diagnostic gear so hopefully get it plugged in on Monday. My worry is that it might be in...

    Re-centering steering wheel

Just had new tyres and tracking fitted - now the steering wheel is out of alignment - is it an easy job to remove and re-centre, or is there another way of doing this (nervous about the air bag):o. thanks.

    03 TD4 hesitancy at 60-70+

Any ideas folks? I might unplug the original Bosch maf to test....(90K miles on car), although I would have thought the Synergy2 would over-ride this. Would a maf problem show engine light? It's ok at cold, just when heater guage sits on the middle (ie warmed up), and then it will drive...
