Mine has the emissions control stuff on it. If I'm thinking of the right thing the idea is that any fumes that come out of the breather pipe on top of the engine go back into the pipe going from air filter to carb. The fumes are then re-burned. I wouldn't bother fitting it if you don't have it.

Are people allowed to sit in the back if there aren't proper bench seats there? My series 3 just has cushions that sit where the benches should be, no backrest. They're bang on the right size so I thought they were original but I've not seen other people with them. Insurance is down as 6 seats...

I had an absolute nightmare trying to get the O-ring to stay in the right place while I tightened it. Ended up not using it and just using some instant gasket and it's been fine so far!

In short: looks nice on the outside but can't tell anything about the important parts.

No idea about child seats. What do they need to allow them to work? That one you link to looks really straight but there are no photos or description of the engine/transmission/chassis. Doesn't look like it has an overdrive either, which you'd probably want if you're doing 50 miles fairly...

Most people don't bother with it. I think the only problem it can cause is with the valve seats and it's easier/cheaper to just replace them if it does happen.

Also, just to double check, to engage both fwh, they both have to turn clockwise dont they? This is what ive been doing but theres no markers on the fwh Mine are clockwise to engage but they're not the same kind as yours, haven't seen your ones before I don't think.

My petrol does that. It's just the oil getting thrown forward in the sump, wouldn't worry about it. In a way, it's quite useful. I can tell when I need to put more oil in without even checking because the light comes on more often.

I have just realised what the two wires coming through the bulkhead in mine are meant to be doing... I don't have that tap thing there either, it's always on hot.

What engine is it? Got overdrive/FWHs?

My Series 3 is ~£330 and I'm early 20s. Also it has free road tax! Saves a good £200+ a year I think.

I still haven't worked out a way to get my mpg yet. Fuel tank leaks if I brim it and the speedo doesn't work... I could run the tank empty then put in a certain amount and run it empty again but it would be a bit of a faff.

Is there a law about how much extra fuel you can carry? I think it's illegal to have more than 30L stored at home but don't know about a car.

Actually thinking about it I might try putting something steel inside the plug for the magnets to hold onto from the outside. Could be a bit risky as if they fall off I've got more floating around in there than I started off with...

I got the very same magnets but mine won't stick to the drain plug?? I have a series 3, not a fender but I thought they should stick on fine. They stick to the chassis fine but not at all to any part of the gearbox or transfer box. The only thing I can think to do is to glue them to the inside...

I used to have it on the bonnet because it looks cool, reduced visibility never bothered me that much. The bonnet is a proper pain in the arse to lift with it on there though so I ended up moving it.
