    Siii 109" transmission (?) problem...

I had a similar-ish problem. I think handbrake is most likely for you but mine was the pinion bearing in the front diff packing up. At first it could be driven with a bit of noise but by the end it would totally lock up the front wheels if I didn't use the freewheeling hubs.

    Seat belt

Just went and took this pic, it was pitch black so just had to point the camera and hope for the best! Which bit can you not get to fit?

    Seat belt

I just drilled holes to match up with the ones on the brackets then stuck some bolts through. Was a bit of an awkward place to drill but shouldn't take too long.

    Urgent help needed

Sorry only just seen this. I must have read the text last night when I'd had a few too many beers and just noticed it again now. I'm next to Kirkcaldy but don't think I'd have been much help. 109 has no MOT so nothing I can tow with. Can use my mum's Jazz to move parts about etc. if needed for...

    Series 3 history

Get your chassis number and have a look on this. Land Rover FAQ - Repair & Maintenance - Series - Chassis Numbers - Suffixes Chassis number will be on V5 if you can't find it anywhere on the car.

    Brakes failed

Even the smallest of leaks on any part of the brake circuit should mean the car doesn't get driven till it's fixed surely? Don't want to be a nob but there's no way I'd risk it. I've had brakes fail too once. Brake line was rubbing the chassis just enough to rub through. Scary stuff.

    Who can swap my chassis?

I did some searching on google and was surprised to see there's quite a few places that do it up in Scotland. I doubt you will want to be coming so far north for it though, I'm sure there are plenty in England. Prices seem to vary a lot, at least £3000 I would think.

thoughts on paper gaskets and the use of sealer..

I just use hylomar blue. No paper gasket. Not had any problems with it so far.

    High ratio transfer case

I think I'm going to put one of these in next summer. Got a 109 200di and going on dual carriageway/motorway isn't a nice experience. Had an o/d but it screamed like hell and just blew up a few months ago... high ratio should be good as it will be much stronger than the o/d and not whine or...

    diff upgrade

Maybe try bigger tyres? 7.50s liike 109s have as standard look good on an 88. I'm planning a high ratio transfer box for my 109 at some point, overdrive has just blown up.

    defender bonnet wires?

Yes they're too dangerous for hitting pedestrians/cyclists. They're called bush wires btw, guess it comes from Australia.

    0-60 - What's yours?

Don't think I've ever gone over 55 in my series. Takes an age just to get to that.

    Farm jack or trolley

I use a hi lift to get my 2a onto stands. I lift from the bumper/crossmember and the leafs are pretty stiff so the axle doesn't stay on the ground long. Doubt it would work with coils as they have loads of travel in them. I don't think you'd be able to lift the middle of it with one. Some...

series 3 grill on a defender

You're probably going to get a grilling for posting this in the wrong section and other stuff but... Is it this you saw? Not really my thing but would be good to see one properly. Startech Goes Retro with Land Rover Series 3.1 Concept at the Essen Motor Show

    Is it Ex MOD?

I put my VIN into that thing and I have 7 modifications! Did a bit mroe research and found this. It uses the last letter of your VIN. Mostly just small things. Land Rover FAQ - Repair & Maintenance - Series - Chassis Numbers - Suffixes
  17. C

    Is it Ex MOD?

If it's a 1969 or older then that is before the changeover year so lights should be in the grille and standard gearbox would not be full synchro. Don't know about that bit on the V5.
  18. C

    Is it Ex MOD?

The very last 2a's had all synchro boxes during the changeover I think. They had lights on the wings too so that could explain the grille (although wings have obv been changed). The bulkhead would always have been the older metal one though.. Is it a 1971?

    110 camper ideas please

I think I'm actually going to go for camping mats instead of the thermawrap stuff. THermawrap is only meant to reflect heat (i.e behind radiators) so needs an air gap. Camping mats are designed to be sandwiched (between person and ground) so might work better. I doubt there's much in it really...

    110 camper ideas please

Fair enough. I have never tried bending ply before but if you did it in reasonably narrow sections it might not be too hard. I'm going to use ply stiffened with battens to fill up the space above the bulkhead behind the seats, like a dog guard. This will mean the rear is sealed off from the...
