You can squeeze underneath and try and turn and pull at the prop shafts. Any movement in the bearings will show up then. Different if they are seized though, the car needs to be up in the air with all four wheels dangling. You'll feel it soon enough as it should all turn quite smoothly there...

Whatever garage MOTs the car dont let them use the rolling road unless it's specifically designed for permanent 4x4. Otherwise they run the risk of really damaging something i.e. the transmission.
