    L322 MOT Brake Test Question

In short the tester you have spoken to does not fully know what they are talking about. Permanent four wheel drive needs a decelerometer test. That is the little box they put on the dash, drive the car on the road and apply the brakes. Do not ever listen to the "It'll be alright" routine or "for...

    ower tailgate straps

Never been that far in, but probably behind the light fittings although a good squirt of waxoil in the holes would see to anything lurking in there. Not too much though otherwise you could goo up the wiring. As you say a dollop of copper grease on the threads and inside the rubber cap to...

    ower tailgate straps

The only silly thing about them is the 10mm bolt head matched to the 10mm thread. It rounds off or crumbles with rust very easily. Once I'd chipped away at the rust I had to use reverse spiral sockets, then a 9mm spanner to finish. Drowned the new ones in copper grease first and waxoiled the...

How much road tax do you pay in your country for your Range Rover.

AUD $696 is £450 or 510 Euro. For 6 months!!!

How much road tax do you pay in your country for your Range Rover.

And for some reason in UK small low powered cars are cheaper to tax than bigger engined RRs for example. View this logically, Range Rover driven sensibly and not necessarily every day against a small boy racer wagon that gets thrashed sensless through all the lower gears revving its guts out at...

New Brake disks - stupid question...

Remember when you're taking the caliper carriers off to use a bi-hex socket as RR were clever enough not to use conventional single hex bolts when fitting them.

    Upper tail gate

We have three. One on the car (you would guess) the one that came off which is a bit rough round the window sealer edge but complete, and an as new one which I bought off a car that was scrapyard bound a year after new tailgates were fitted.

Stays in 1st on steep incline

Off the wall idea here. Are any of the brakes binding? I had similar with one of the P38s lately where it wouldnt do into top gear. Back left caliper was sticking badly and dragging which had the knock on effect of having to keep accelerating to maintain speed and the car thought it was helping...

    Upper tail gate

Should do. I recently put one from a 1992 four door model on a 1971 two door.

    Now she won't start?!?!

Try another battery or a jump start with the other car not running otherwise you can overcook your electrics. Sounds like the starter getting power but not enough to turn it. Battery could have gone low over the past few days if its not been used and with the doors open and shut etc and if today...

    Fitting 2 ABS sensors

PS That looks like about 4 hours labour which is about right for how fiddly they can be. They would have self re-set and the lights gone out themselves however a run through the computer would clear the stored faults and show up anything else a bit intermittent so in all you've done ok. I had...

FREELANDER TD4 Somethings knocking when cornering

You can squeeze underneath and try and turn and pull at the prop shafts. Any movement in the bearings will show up then. Different if they are seized though, the car needs to be up in the air with all four wheels dangling. You'll feel it soon enough as it should all turn quite smoothly there...

FREELANDER TD4 Somethings knocking when cornering

Can go for long enough if you can put up with it. A new complete shaft is only about £70and not the trickiest to fit.

Done it, simple. Top brackets first, disconnect pipe unions then the fan plugs, lift and it's out. 10 minutes. Back in took a little longer as the little mounting lug hole beside the lower mounting bolt needed elongated slightly. Do it up and bingo. Less than an hour even allowing for the file...

FREELANDER TD4 Somethings knocking when cornering

Is it a regular, rotational knock or more random with the road bumps? Could be as simple as an anti-roll bar link pin. Have a passenger stick their head out the window or more safely find a large open space (car park) and circle around said volunteer in both directions. Knocking CV joints...

P38 Drivetrain vibration - no prop fitted!

Aargh, been there with this one. Never did get a final decision on whether to have the joints parallel or phased by two splines. Mine is still phased slightly and any vibe is barely noticeable which is a lot better than a bearingless joint half out the yoke and rubbing on the nuts!!

    P38 - L322 - Ford Mondeo ST220!

ST220 is not without issues of its own. Not least of which is a recurring misfire. They never did get to the bottom of it. Also check the brake calipers very carefully and the usual Mondeo suspension bushes. Otherwise quite a sleek car.

    Front drop links again

That's part of the problem - cheap ones, and of course the roads up this area!

Got new condenser (Hella) and set about taking off the old one today. Grille, landing panel, etc. Top fan bolts, bottom bolts with long extension but just can't get to the lower fan bolts. Is this bumper going to have to come off or can I get through a gap somewhere? While I was down there I did...

    Fitting 2 ABS sensors

Whatever garage MOTs the car dont let them use the rolling road unless it's specifically designed for permanent 4x4. Otherwise they run the risk of really damaging something i.e. the transmission.
