    1996 - 2000 P38 Do you trust it?

Just a quick poll... If you own a 1996 - 2000 Range Rover P38 do you trust it? I mean, if you lived in Cornwall and someone asked you at a moments notice to jump into it and drive it to Scotland, would you do it without worry? do you think it would get you there trouble free? The reason I...

Temp guage not working after head gasket change??

I would look at the obvious first, the temp sender in the head, then try bleeding the system properly of air, then I'd look at the thermostat. Petrol or doesel, BTW?

P38 Diesel. Best power & Torque Boost?

Then I'll reiterate by point, does the charge air need further cooling? And a bigger intercooler is going to prevent this is it? Then buy a V8, if you want performance and better economy than petrol consider a V8 on LPG:rolleyes:

P38 Diesel. Best power & Torque Boost?

Not sure how you get a bigger intercooler in there, but more to the point, how do you know that the charge air needs cooling further?? have you taken temps of the air being fed into the collector? I seriously doubt at this time of the year it needs further cooling. P.S. Remember, this is a...

Yes another post about a p38 BMW diesel Overheating

If you have read through this thread you will have seen the debate on pattern vs genuine, well I was beginning to think that my new pattern radiator was the cause of my overheating problems as the baffle was allowing water to pass from one port straight to the other without passing through the...

Hi , Here is the content of the email, this was from July this year so may be out of date, wouldn't hirt to contact them though.. Thank you for your recent enquiry regarding a cylinder head for a Range Rover 2.5TD (BMW 6 cyl) . We can supply a fully remanufactured, service exchange...

Here's a thought... What about using the radiator from a 4.0 V8 petrol in the diesel? The bottom hose would need modification, but the radiator would then be more conventional, i.e. heated water enters via the top flows down through the core, cooler water exit's via the bottom hose, this...

    first range rover

I don't like to sound pessimistic but look at these forums for 2.5 DSE cooling problems ( and before some arse starts a flame war, I'm not implying this is going to happen to you!) To help keep it running sweetly, keep a very vigilant eye over fluid levels and neglect nothing...

The cracks you have in your head might not be as bad as you think, it might be worth you taking it to a good engineering firm and getting them to pressure test it first, should only cost you about £50 - £60 for the pressure test. You can get the bolts and top end gasket set (minus head gasket)...

Sorry but I don't fully agree with this, a pattern part should be able to do the job it was made to do, if it doesn't then it isn't fit for purpose. I'm also sure that LR when building the P38 didn't go with the first price they found when looking for radiators or whatever, the work...

    2.5 dse engine.

I totally agree with you, hence the reason I bought the bolt and didn't use a pattern one or re-use the old one, but we are being taken for a ride with the prices! Take a look in the showrooms, sumptuous leather sofas, better carpet than my house!!, who's paying for it? the chumps that pay 75k...

I don't think the majority of us willingly but 'cheap copy parts' Most of the big online LR parts specialists don't make it very obvious that you are buying a pattern part, even the prices are not too far away from a main dealers for a lot of items. But sometimes I think that the main agents...

    P38 DSE cold start problems

The spill or leak back pipes take un-injected diesel back to the injector pump from the injectors. They are either hard (when cold) plastic or fabric covered rubber, they have a tendancy to get brittle with age, usually found by smelling diesel under the bonnet or seeing diesel well up around...

Two other things I forgot to mention, I've changed the water pump (as some say they fail due to impeller slipping problems, though mine didn't) with a non genuine QH one, it doesn't look to bad, in terms of quality, not as many vanes as the original (8 rather than 11) and the other thing is my...

£450 for them to chip it!! or over a grand for a bigger intercooler (which will make at best minimal difference) and chip it!! Oh.. and plus VAT Do yourself a favour, spend the grand on a cheap V8, keep the diesel and have both!!!

Again thanks for all the info Wills, much appreciated. As the rad is currently out of the car I tried a quick test tonight, with the rad upside down and tilted to one side (so that one of the ports was at 6 o'clock and the other was at about 3 o'clock I poured a watering can into the 3 o'clock...
