    Oil in turbo

I'd try it out before buying another. The engine is about as powerful a Bee's fart with the turbo, so without it you will notice the differance!, it's a 'low blow' unit so you will hear it spin up just as soon as you pull away in first gear, (wind the window down and listen for the high pitched...

DSE Manual box no 5th or reverse?

If you think about it, it could be a very nasty gearbox fault. You bought the car with a knackered engine as it had sucked in some water, if when it happened it was in gear driving along and the engine stopped very suddenly, the wheels were still trying to go round, driving the propshafts...

    2.5D Catalytic Converter

As far as I know there are no cats on older diesels, they are 'smog filters' so scooping out the insides gives better gas flow. There are no sensors on the pre and post 'cat type box' as even if there were how would they ajust the fueling with an almost completely mechanical injection pump...

    1989 gearbox problems

If it's auto, it's a job for the specialists only. Manuals arn't a problem, it's probably worn syncro rings (brass bits between the gears). a good manual with good pictures is a massive help when re-assembling. Is the crunching worse when the box is cold? are you using ATF in the box and not...

    Starter and heater matrix

I wouldn't use any additive, it's just a short term bodge, bite the bullet and fix the real problem, the radweld could only cause overheating problems in the hot summer months, and lets face it, you don't want overheating problems!!!

    Heated Front Screen

How quickly should the windscreen demist (just a light fog of condensation, not thick ice!) using only the screen heater? Is there a method for testing them? are there common problems?

    Engine Swap

I was looking for a new head for my dse, the place I got my rebuilt head from said they were all the same, same cams. I've just put an Omega engine in and to be honest it feels much flatter, almost gutless!, my old motor had the hot start fault and did the usual diesel haze of smoke under...

Range Rover 1997 Engine Replacement (2.5)

Take the plate off the front between the headlights, 4 bolts, take the grill out, a handful of Phillips screws, then remove all the radiators. If your hoist won't reach to the middle of the head you can take the bumper off to get the further in, there are only 2 bolts holding the bumper on. I...

Range Rover 1997 Engine Replacement (2.5)

If it's ingested water it's a pretty safe bet it's either bent a rod or snapped the crank, diesels don't like trying to compress water into virtually zero space! If you've removed engines in the past, especially transverse front wheel drive stuff the RR will come as a refreshing simple one to...

    range rover classic steering wheel

Or if that doesn't work and you don't have a puller, Try sitting in the driving seat, shove your knees up under the wheel and push, then give the centre nut a sharp tap with a copper mallet (if you have one) while the nut is loosened just a couple of threads, don't loosen the nut to far or you...

P38 Spare Wheel Well Fish Tank

I've drilled a small (3mm) hole in the lowest spot in the well which lets any water out now, just wondered if others have suffered with this? can't see where it gets in, the carpets are always dry, only the well that has water in it.

P38 Spare Wheel Well Fish Tank

Yes another post about a p38 BMW diesel Overheating

The gaskets arrived (sump, oil pickup) and while I was at it I replaced both front and rear crank seals. Flywheel bolts are different on the manual (Vauxhall) so the original ones were re-used, says in the manual new should be fitted but they are only Loctited, so clean the threads and re-apply...

    brakes binding - again

I don't know how dificult it is to bleed a p38, wouldn't have thought it will be too bad, get someone to pump the peddal for you, even easier! If you strip and rebuild the caliper you'll know it not going to give you any trouble for a good long while and it's nice to know the brakes are spot on.
