As it is a 99 model it will need a chip not just a map putting on to the ecu so will be going to a reputable garage with a guarante.

Have you checked the waste gate control valve,had the same problem on a Citroen.

My son has just had his golf gti turbo remapped,the guy who did it said he would remap my disco td5 for £60, he would read a file and copy a file on the ecu do something with it and then copy it back onto the ecu is there any danger to the engine.

According to some people you should lightly oil or grease the headbolts around the washer.

Had a similar problem towing my caravan,found out it had a d1 tow are with an extended tow ball,changed the tow bar to a d2 one and now tows as it should.

If it is a head gasket,they are quite simple to do,you only need a few tools and a Haynes manual for torque settings,if it is only a gasket change it can be done by 2 people in a day.

10 MM. Ring spanner on 1 of the bolts to stop it turning,it is also a standard right hand thread.

Rebuilt the top end of my td5,the cam chain pulley has 3 elongated holes in it,am I right in thinking this will adjust or retard the timing slightly.

Bottle and cap have been changed and the problem has gone

Thanks everyone for the ideas,quick update decided to buy a good second hand head,drove to middlewich about 25 miles and lost about 2 litres of fluid,the guy who was selling the head had a quick look,tried to pressure the water systym and found the expansion tank filler neck did not feel right...

On the second new cap

When the expansion cap vents the coolent comes out of the expansion bottle via a little overflow pipe that normally runs down the side of the inner wing area,I connected a longer pipe on to this to monitor how much coolent was being lost via the expansion cap.

Isolated the matrix as it is a good place for air to hide(lol)the overflow pipe on the expansion bottle

Isolated the heater matrix filled very slowly put a long hose on expansion tank then into a bottle and drove normally for about 10 miles and caught 1/4 litre of coolent,been told today it sounds like I need a new head ( discovery) not me.

When I did the rebuild filled the water up till it came out of the top hose with the header tank above the engine,ran up to temp let it cool then re filled to the cold level. If there is still air in the system would this push water out.

Help please,1999 disco2 td5 10 p engine,it is throwing water out of the expansion bottle,new head gasket,with steel dowels head bolts oiled as they should according to Erling head bolts are new,new rad,thermostat and expansion cap,new water pump,water was put in according to landrover,when I say...

The other thread was a thank you,no secrets about fixing the disco ,it was a wire that had got hot behind the egr pipe is everybody happy now.

To sierrafery for putting me on the right track to fixing my disco,turned out to be a wire that had slightly melted in the wiring harness that ran to the maf it had dropped behind the egr pipe at the front of the engine,once again thanks.

sorry f2 under bonnet and it is pre facelift.
