    Play in OSF wheel?

Hi All Just trying to trace the source of my vibration on my 2000 2.0L Frelander. I have the car on axle stands and are cheking things as I go. Checking the wheel bearings by checking for play by trying to move the wheel whilst holding it at 12 and 6 o'clock and no play. But if I hold the wheel...

    Vibration at approx 1750 rpm?

Hi Ron Just disconnected it and it does run a bit better. It has more initial grunt so to speak. I'll have to look at cleaning/replacing that! Sadly it didn't cure my vibration but I didn't really expect it to as that is a lot more mechanical. Best. Taipan

    Vibration at approx 1750 rpm?

I went under the car at the weekend, I couldn't find anything loose or vibrating anywhere? Could this be the gearbox or the IRD? There seems to be a mettalic rattle as well as the vibration and it all dissapears as above 2.5k revs and then its smooth?

    Rear diff failure?

I took mine off as part of a process of elimination for my vibration problem. It's so much better in 2wd I left it like it. Well that and I'm too lazy to get back under there in the rain.:o :D

    Rear diff failure?

Take the rear prop assembly off anyway. Its twice the car to drive without it, much nicer. Mind you I did look a pratt bogged down on the grass verge at my kids footie game on Sunday. Fortunately a Focus with amazing grip was able to rescue me.:o :D

    2.0 Di Engine

I have the 2.0L diesel and yes it is a noisy old lump. But it has a nice even feel to it, a broad spread of (limited) power. I've no towed with it, so couldn't comment there though. I'm in basildon in essex. If you're near by you're welcome to stop by and have a listen/drive up the road.

Do pre TD4 diesel and petrol Freelanders use the same gearbox?

HI Mate Thanks for the reply. Mines the earlier 2.0L non BMW diesel. Does it have the same gearbox as a TD4 then? The vibration I have comes through the car between 1500 - 2000 rpm and is really pronounced at 1750 in 4th gear! It is there in the other gears but a lot less...

Do pre TD4 diesel and petrol Freelanders use the same gearbox?

Hi All In an attempt to cure my vibration I may pick up a s/hand gearbox for my 2000 2.0L diesel Freelander and fit it whilst I get my gearbox overhauled by a mate inhis spare time. So is a 98 1.8 petrol engine gearbox the same as my '00 2.0L diesel one? If not how can i identify a 2.0L...

I knew Freelanders had a bad reputation.....

I knew Freelanders had a bad reputation but I didn't know a lot of Independant Land Rover places wont even work on them! Phoned up the guy who used to look after my 200 TDi Discovery to get him to sort the vibration/gearbox problem out and change the belts. He just said Sorry Mate I wont...

    Vibration

Well if this has hapened since you've had the discs and pads fitted then the golden rule of go back to where you last worked would apply. I'd check the installation of these parts was done correctly and the wheels are seated properly etc.

    Vibration at approx 1750 rpm?

Yup, i think some of the vibration was the prop bearings. But the main shake and shudder comes when you put your foot down in 4th and I think 5th gear. It doesn't do it in the first three gears?

    Can I really go 2wd?

Well firstly, I like Land Rovers. I dont know why, but I do:confused: . They just float my boat! :D I dont do off roading as such, but I do like to venture down the odd green lane from time to time. But in fairness I probably only do this because I have a Land Rover as opposed to why I bought...
