    Lofty's 1989 90 rebuild thread

Axle is now off and I've managed to cut off the sliders. Carried on with grinding down the chassis on Friday but then ended up in A&E as I got a bit of metal in my eye!! The nurse got it out but said I now had a ring of rust in my eye and have to go to the eye clinic in Preston. I...

    Tdi dash vent knob removal?

Well, there's no way mine are coming off, they seem to be one piece. There doesn't seem to be a thread on my mech like the one here. Looks like mine is one of these, so will have to change the whole unit...not cheap!

    Tdi dash vent knob removal?

Don't you have to take of the nuts from the back of the vent flap? or are you talking about the ones at the sides of the clocks? If you mean just the actual knobs of the bulkhead vents, then looking at the mech they should just screw off, but I tried on mine and they feel like they don't won't...

    Lofty's 1989 90 rebuild thread

Made some good progress today. Removed the rear shocks (had to cut them off with a grinder), the rear springs, the rear prop shaft, the exhaust and the rear axle (except one of the bolts would not come out the radius bars). I also made a start on cutting off the sliders that have been welded...

    Lofty's 1989 90 rebuild thread

Had a day or so to work on it so started cleaning up the chassis: Not sure what to do about the sliders... do I keep them on and clean them up or remove them?? If I can get them off cleanly I'd prefer to take them off I think.

Yet another 110 CSW full rebuild ! Photos given, Plenty of advise required :)

Good luck. Just got mine down to chassis level too (except the front). I'm in IT myself but how hard can this rebuild thingy be??? :)

    Lofty's 1989 90 rebuild thread

Jet washed the chassis and rear cross member over the weekend. Found one small hole in the rear x member and the exhaust hanger needs to be welded replaced. Does the hanger just bolt on by default? It seems to be attached with two nuts and a bit of welding on mine.

Is this a fake e-bay listing?

Seen a few recently.. why would you sell something for a lot less than it's worth?? I'd stay clear myself. A friend of mine got caught out with a car scam last year on autotrader and lost over £3000!

Next up was removing the dash and floor: Dash out (I hope I can remember how to put it back): Then off came the roof: and then the seatbox, sides and tub: and that's where is stands as of today.

    Lofty's 1989 90 rebuild thread

I now how much you all like a good rebuild thread so I thought I'd start my own. I've had my defender for about 8 months and used it until the MOT ran out and then decided to take it off the road and do a rebuild. It a 1989 2.5TD and here it is when I bought it: Had to change the down pipe...

Guys, thanks for all the offers. I'm going to give Stu first refusal and then Dr Evil. I'm not easily able to get this out to anyone so really could do with someone to come to me.
