I wouldn't bother with a ashcrofts, there are a lot of ex-disco ones about with low mileage and cheep as chips. I sold a good one with transfer box for £20 on ebay.

I have recently put a 24 spline disco rear axle on my 200tdi 90 and all is good. I am now looking at the fount , i have 2 spare fount axles and will need swivels from both to make make up one good axle. my resent idea being could i build the diff, shafts and ends from the 24 spline (abs) axle...

Im getting a rather horrible noise when the turbo kicks in, it sounds as if the bearings have gone in the turbo unit. I have given the vain's a wobble and there is a little play but not a lot. It sound kind of like the barings are dry, but as far as i can tell there is fresh oil at the oil feed...

I had a similar one,i put the wheel back on( left all the hub nuts ect off) put it on a axle stand then lay under the car and kicked crap out of the wheel. It took some abuse but the leaverage/ size of the wheel and me kicking got it off. saved the hub but not the stub axle. good luck

I had the same problem with my disco, but snapped the key. If you contact your main dealer they will order you a new key from the vin number. It costs all of £22.75 IIRC.

I have a 92 on a j, with 96k on it. My mates p reg 300 disco finally gave up saturday (big end) it had 311000 miles on the clock.

if you have the original 1989 axles NO. You will longer studs, or/and wheel spacers as there may be issue with them hitting the drive flanges as well

sounds like you need a grinder, a drill and a few basic tools. If you can get to both sides cut it off, drill it out, and put new bolts in, 1hr max surely?

Is the alternator working? What voltage do you get at the battery? If its under 14v when engine is running.. then its dead and best go buy a new alternator. Or you could chance it and end up stuck with no lights in the middle of nowhere.

if you push and pull hard on the top of the wheel (eg12 o'clock) it it moves / clunks, then better get a wheel bearing set. And if its been a while then your in for a long day fixing it as the races will weld them selfs to the stub axle. Be careful driving on it if its that, you could end up...
