sounds like you have the battery light wire on the wrong terminal on the alternator, it sounds like its on the "w" conector witch is for the rev counter in a disco.

If you google wheel bearing kits, for both vehicles the part numbers will give you a definative answer.

Bearings will fit as will the inner seal. I thing the the early disco axles also have a outer hub seal, which I don't think the defender has.

You need to go and have 4 wheel alingnment done at a good tyre garage. Playing with you panhard rod will meen your axles don't line up any more. As for the steering wheel being out, it's down to the drag link but there's no point setting that till you have sorted the crabbing out. Before you...

It looks like you have oil on the disk ? Are your wheel bearings ok? Or maybe the hub seal has failed? A losse wheel bearing leads to the feeling of no brakes, because the wobbling disk pushes the pads apart ,.:. then oil on the disk ....if I need to explain that as a problem it's time to call...

if its really as good as it says with only 35k on it then 4to 5k is not a supprise. but then if your lively hood suddenly is dependant of a 4x4 cos of the snow then adding 50% is about right. id love to be a landrover dealer in scoutland right now!
