    grey plug

Spot on Singvogel - looms and wiring do vary - not to any pattern it would seem? There are N American looms wiv switches and UK ones without - what loom you gets seems to depend on what was in front of yours on the line when it was made or what was in stock on the shelf at the time?? If you want...

Passenger car tires ok or need LT tires?

Hi 03lander, :welcome2: Your question is asked many many times on here - explains the lack of replies. Usually this would get a tirade of burn it or other helpful suggestions. I also have the dreaded 17" wheels - unfortunately there are relatively few tyres available in the correct ratings for...

    Snow Socks

That would be it then - spacers! ;);) Fit 7mm spacers plus < 8mm clearance = > 14mm to play with  Skinny chains will then fit - BUT - we had standard LR chains for the Disco - hoops round the back, loose tensioning the hoops driving on and then resetting the tensions :mad: Not...

    Snow Socks

Nope, actually measured the gap between the tyre wall and the spring = < 8mm when standing unloaded on the road. (don't spend that sort of money without checking the facts) ;) The 9mm chains won't go round without hitting the springs. Eventually went for a S/H Maggi Trax front fitting set...

    grey plug

Red/White wires are used for power around ECU and the only one I can see that would appear under the drivers seat is in the Cruise Control loom from the paddle controls. These should be red/white and blue/white - not black. There is a large two wire connector for the heated seat but you say...

    Snow Socks

Hi Joe, My FL has the dreaded 225x55x17 alloys = no clearance behind wheels for chains. French insist on chains regardless for winter alpine access = problem. I looked at snow socks excellent on packed snow but reputed to shreded when even the smallest area of tarmac exposed. Also...

Smoke on cold start up TD4

Hi David, On-Off load differences should be taken up by the chain tensioner - unless that's sloppy too ?? Is the cam chain noisey ?? If not it should not affect things that greatly. :) The only thing mechanical I can think of that operates around 1800/2000RPM is the EGR valve. Is your one still...

    Farting Freelander!

Hi Willo, Hit another 25# on a Dying Duck fred again - should be some sort of league table for recycled posts on a sticky freds. :D Maybe a poll ?? Singvogel's spot on it ain't there till you hear it from outside and once you've heard it it becomes ominous every time you switch off until...

Smoke on cold start up TD4

Hi David, Thanks for the explanation of how you fixed it. Congrats :):) All injector timing taken from the crank sensor (or ECU default) ;) Worn cam chain causing late valve timings - stretch in the pull side from the crank - seems feasable. But wouldn't that help by allowing longer to burn the...

    Farting Freelander!

Caution! The solenoid is operated by the ECU - the ECU generates fault codes. One of them may be EGR solenoid open cct. If this is so disconnecting the solenoid may be a no-no. Better to blank the vac me thinks!

    2 stroke oil in diesel

Done first 250mL batch of Tesco best red 2stroke mineral in a tank full, accordig to missus it pulls better and runs smoother. Worth the £1(ish) a fill if it makes her feel that much better and it's probably doing a good job lubing up the pumps and injectors as well. Win - win?? :tea:

2004 td4 freelander .. Making sucking noise when turned off

Hi There, Follow the fred. There was a super mod that cures the DUCK and only uses a stanley knife and a shelf support. ;) The shelf support was even on offer for free by the mod's inventor. As to danger - absolutely none - you can listen to the DUCK for as long as you like without any damage to...

2004 td4 freelander .. Making sucking noise when turned off

Hi There, Had the site go down last night so here's the page where the DUCK resides - tis in the sticky. http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f9/egr-blanking-mod-63948-15.html Does yours sound like this (but a little quieter)? Congrats to Willo for the excellent recording of the long extinct...

    failing MOT emissions

Had a similar experience on my Rover 1.6 K series. Just could not get the Co down. New cat helped but it was still marginal. Tried three lambda sensors but little improvement. Good exhaust system and no air leaks. Took off exhaust manifold as the Lambda was difficult to fit/check behind manifold...

2004 td4 freelander .. Making sucking noise when turned off

TD4 - has it had the EGR blanked? (could have been done by previous owner) Does the noise sound a bit like a strange duck? Check out the long sticky thread about EGR mod - there's even a video with the duck noise on it. :) If it's that - no need to worry and there's an easy fix to get...

    steering wheel vibration update

Hi Gary, You really do need to find a long string or long piece of cloth tape and collect some data on the tyres you have fitted. You need to measure around the tyres (circumference) not diameter as that only give you the measurements to the sidewall treads not the rolling distance for the tyre...

    swapping tyres round

Hi Gary, Collect a bit of hard data from the tyres you have fitted and post back. Check all of your tyre pressures are correct first (pressures as you usually run them). Jack up each wheel in turn and measure the circumference of each wheel in the centre of the tread using a bit of string/tape...

    Part number

Hi Gary, Pectron is one firm I found when researching mine - their OEM CC units were in the £70 - £100 range on ebay. Think that's where I got the info about the later models being a straight replacement. I recall reading that the Rover 75 TD4 CC units were also useable but you may need to...

    desperate help with part

Hi Gary, Any locking 4 wire switch should be ok to test. The correct switch lights green at night and orange when the CC is turned on. The switch tops are interchangable. :):) The dash CC led only comes on when CC is active (controlled by the paddles & ECU). The petrol's use a direct feed into...
