    what disco to choose

I'd go for a clean, late 300tdi without the sunroofs etc. You can be ery choosy if your budget allows. 1K will get you a reasonable high miler (that's what i got), nearer 2k will get you a very nice lower mileage car. I got a 96 low spec high miler 6 months ago (200k on the clock) and it's been...

    TDV6 or TD5

It is a disco and a good one at that, very capable on and off road. That 2.7 diesel is one of the best around. If i was lucky enough to have the same amount to spend on a 4x4, it would be a late model disco or a late range rover. But for towing the disco has it all.

    TDV6 or TD5

The new one if you're gonna spend circa 20k. I know a few people who have these for towing and they love em. Get one as new as possible with a good spec and FSH and you'll be sorted. Far better engine than the td5.

    buying a disco

I think the reliability issues are more down to poor servicing etc, because i'e had a V8 range rover, a TD5 and now a 300tdi. Not one of these gave me any real problems. The range rover was totally reliable the whole time, the TD5 had rear airbags and a rocker cover gasket and the 300 tdi has...

its snowing - do i put it in diff lock

Its pretty bad up here, but haven't had to use diff lock at all as the disco is coping spot on!! My transit is proving "fun" though. As for the XJR, forget it!!!

    buying a disco

You could get a very tidy 300tdi for less than 2 grand. Go for the latest model with a reasonable mileage and a good service history!

which diesel engine 200 or 300

Have yu read the thread TITLE? since when are yu interested in wot the inside of an engine looks like? __________________ Yes i read the tiltle!! Looks to me like the guys after buying a disco. Not just an engine!! I was explaining why the 300tdi is better. Im sure he will understand, even if...

which diesel engine 200 or 300

The 300tdi is the way to go. Its quieter, more refined and it looks better inside and out. The parts are easier to get and its easier to find a good one. Seen some really smart ones around for under 1200 quid. I paid 1000 for a P reg and its been fantastic in the 6 months ive had it. Make sure...

    towing insurance

I wouldn't have bothered in the first place. They should have got a landrover!!!
  10. P

not a good start to my land rover ownership

I use a firm called highway 4x4. 200 quid fully comp, but i'm 39 with full NCB. must be worth a try. It can be difficult to get insurance for 4x4s from main stream companies if you are young etc.

Should i go for a 300tdi or v8? Is there much difference in mpg?

I meant if he's doing 5k a year, get a 4.0se rangie. I wouldn't bother putting lpg on it for that mileage. Unless you can find one already done!

Should i go for a 300tdi or v8? Is there much difference in mpg?

If you're gonna do 5k a year and economy isn't really an issue, i would go for a range rover 4.0se. If you want economy go for the 300tdi.

Is this good value? V8 Disco

Now is the time to buy a V8 landy or range rover, they are going for silly money. As stated before, get one that has already had a quality conversion (ask for the certificate, bill etc). The V8 discos are well specced, so make sure everything is working properly and go for a full history The 4...

    Slow wipers

I;ve got a similar problem with my 300. Wipers slow on intermitant and when i use the front washer the radio goes off!! Convinced it's a wiring/earth problem.

Is this good value? V8 Disco

If you are only doing 6k a year, get one that's been converted. Make sure it's a good one with certificate etc. Take it for a long test drive from cold and get it up to normal. I would take it on a 10 mile trip minimum. You can get a converted one for the same price as a normal v8. Loads of nice...

what you all think of my td5

I've had a range rover classic and 2 discos and i kept them totally standard, because they are practical and look good as they are. If you want the best on/off road car gat a disco, if you want a long distance practical family car get a rangie and if you want the best way of getting from A to B...

Is it worth bidding any more on this Disco

A grand absolute tops! It's a 200 tdi. I got a tidy 300 tdi 0n a p plate for a grand. Loads about so take your time and get the best deal you can.

    silly heating question

The most obvious check would be the coolant level, the heater matrix is usually the first sign of coolant loss. Don't use the expansion tank to check the level, Sqeeze the hoses and as said earlier check at the cap on the thermostat housing. I have a p reg tdi, it lost less than a litre of...

    4 X 4 virgin

Rangie 4litre with lpg is the way to go if you're wanting to tow a big caravan. i had the old rangie, a 93, it was the most comfortable and reliable car i'e had, really regret getting rid of it. It pulled a shogun with a cravan on the back up a wet hill, no problems. It never missed i beat all...
