    1995 200 tdi help needed

2 grand is a lot for a 95, i paid 1000 for a 96P 300tdi. Even if it is mint, you need to be getting that price down.Cost to change from the golf (depending on year) should be no more than 500 quid. I would shove the golf on ebay or in the trader and go in with cash at these ages. I saw an...

    Diesel Versus V8 quandry!

I had a 2001 td5 es with all the extras in silver, it was nice to have electric heated seats etc. I must admit, i very rarely used them though and i now have a P reg 300tdi with no toys, it's a family/dogs mover so i don't need the complex gadgets. I bought a Jaguar xjr, after i sold my td5 so...

    Diesel Versus V8 quandry!

I dare say the weather is keep prices high at the moment, but the dealer needs to remember it's a V8! Did you go and look at this 2003 blue one in person? If you are still interested, don't forget to give it a very long test drive, and get them to wash and dry it before you check it over. Check...

    1995 200 tdi help needed

What'she asking for it? M reg suggest 300 tdi. Take it for a very long test drive and make sure temp gauge stays around the middle. As said before check for rust just about everywhere, especially the boot floor, front floor, front inner wings. Make sure all the electrics work.

    Any decent engine additives?

So you say I should spend a bit more on quality oil, funny how you know what I spend and what oil, but I do use fully synth Mobil oil, so what do you suggest is better and why. Also I use unleaded petrol the stuff that every one else uses, but I still use a petrol additive so what's the harm...

    Any decent engine additives?

I would say spend a bit more on quality oil and keep to the intervals (i change oil every 5k), and that should be all you need. If you car is running well and you are using quality fuel, you shouldn't need injector cleaners either.

    Diesel Versus V8 quandry!

The silver one you are looking at is the same colour as the td5 i had. It's atually a good colour in the flesh. It doesn't show up small blemishes or streaks either. The car looks nice, slightly up on miles, but they cope well. I'd have that one any day!

    Diesel Versus V8 quandry!

This is gonna sound mad, but have you checked the main dealers!! They do still have these models from time to time, and i bet you would get one for a better price. Also check the big car supermarkets, they take these in as p/x for small cars, but they don't like big engine cars, you can do some...

Front Electric window opens 10mm and wont fully shut!

I have the same problem on my 300 tdi, it's quite common for the window to come away from the guide on the regulator. Take off your door card, if you can, drop the window down so you can see the guide. These rust and fail to grip the window. be careful when operating the window because i trashed...

It does look nice Nik, you could be cheeky and go in at 7.5k. He can only say no! But V8s are still quite hard to sell. The balls in your court.

This is a rough guide for you. Think you need to get the price down a bit on that one. Land Rover Discovery (98-04) 1. 4.0 V8i ES 5d Auto (7 Seat) Change 2. 2003/53 Change 3. Average mileage: 60,000 miles Change 4. Adjust for mileage and options Change No options selected Original Price...

    Diesel Versus V8 quandry!

Just set yourself a budget (keep some to put any niggles right) and buy the best you can, put mileage and condition over year. I bought a 51 plate over a face lift model because the 51 plate was an ES with 48k and the facelift was 100k and lower spec, mine was a td5, had it been a V8 i would...

    Diesel Versus V8 quandry!

Don't dismiss the V8, it is a cracking engine! The issues you read about are mainly due to poor servicing and neglect. Look after the cooling system (good quality antifreeze and correct mixture), and give it regular oil changes and it will run forever. I know someone with a p38 rangie v8 (lpg)...

    what disco to choose

The td5 is a landrover unit if i remember right! Nothng to do with bmw! But it is more refined and i found it a bit more economical as well. I would still go for a 300tdi though, the td5 is just a bit too fragile.

    Range Rover or Discovery

Don't dismiss the P38, it's a very good model. Very comfortable and practical, as for reliability, it depends on how the car has been serviced etc. I would go for a 4.0 se, it seems the 4.6 was over bored hence the porous block issue. I know a few owners of P38s, one who's car has done 220k on...

    TDV6 or TD5

I think people are still getting used to the disco 3, land rover enthusiasts like the older discos and it'll take time for the new one to be accepted (a bit like the range rovers). As daily transport and as a tow vehicle the disco 3 and the new rangie is very hard to beat, i've seen both these...

    TDV6 or TD5

I don't think he's after an off roader, more of a tow car. A friend of mine has a large show trailer, he used to tow it with a 7.5 ton lorry. He bought a disco 3 as a replacement and is really happy with it, he was really happy with how it tows. I think it's down to personal preference and what...

    castrol magnatec in my V8

Use good quality oil and change it at regular intervals. I had a V8 range rover and changed it every 5k. A lot of the V8 wear issues is due to poor servicing.

    TDV6 or TD5

As most of your driving is on the road and for towing, the disco 3 is the obvious choice for your budget. It is far superior on road and very capable off road (i've seen one of these in action and they can go just about anywhere). Prices are very good as well and there a re loads out there. Go...
