MOT FAIL.. Is it worth repairing????

You might try a search on here. From memory there's been a few posts (mainly from Redhand) about sill replacements using box section steel. Might be cheaper/easier than proper sills and gives the added advantage of additional strength (not sure on that point though). If it were me, I'd do...

    Electric seats

Not sure if the runners will fit but if the wiring is anything like a classic rangie, then it's dead simple. 2 lives and 1 earth for each seat. Wired mine into power for the back windows. If you're not sure, just check out some seats at a breaker that still have switches. Hope it helps

    300TDi engine loom

I'm in the middle of an engine and box swap on my 96 300TDi. I've taken the engine and box from an earlier 300 but the loom is a little different. I'm not good with the electrics so what's the easiest option between these? Swap over the 96 loom to the earlier engine? Leave the earlier loom on...

    Lumpy running tdi 300

Not seen the thread you talk about but white smoke from a diesel usually means unburnt fuel from what I've been told (although others on here will know a lot more about it than I) The symptoms you describe would say to me that it's miss firing on #2 but I'm not a mechanic. Have you checked...

    300tdi discovery temp reading ???

I have a similar problem with the Doris' MX5. Will thrash around backroads all day but try and sustain anything over 3500 revs for any length of time and the temperature just goes up. The advice I was given to look into this problem was to check/replace the following; Radiator cap...

    300TDi wiring loom

Finally got the engine and box out of my car. Few things broken and/or bent. After taking the advice on here about pulling the engine and box together, it's lucky I have a friend with a large field and JCB. Plucked it out like a rotten tooth but it was a squeeze. Now to get the other one...

    Passed the mot, just.

Yep, leave it there and buy a mig unless you're doing chassis work. The mig will come in handy in years (months??) to come

    300TDi wiring loom

Cheers for the reply. Been up to the car tonight and double checked. My loom definately has 4 covered bundles coming from the engine bay. 2 go to the multiplugs mentioned, 1 goes up under the dash, the other goes to the kick panel. Not had the chance to see if these disconnect easily so does...

    300TDi wiring loom

I'm in the middle of removing the engine from my 96 300TDi. It's taking an awful lot longer than I thought as it appears that the wiring loom needs lots of disconnecting. Both Haynes and Rave state that the engine loom can be detached simply by opening two multiplugs under the dash. However...

    What's best?

Cheers Sean. Just driven the donor home and everything feels good. The gearbox is a lot smoother than my old one. Next question - what, if anything other than a service should be changed whilst the engine is out (thinking timing belt, P gasket, etc) Thanks for the info

    What's best?

Well, there is a fun element to pulling apart and putting back together again but the idea to swap engine & box is that there would be less work to do. From searching the net, taking the engine off the box in the car seems like more work than just taking the lot out. I just thought I'd ask...

    What's best?

Cheers Buster. Are the boxes that weak it's an idea to keep them? I only really wanted the engine and was going to scrap the rest to re-coup some of my cash. Ta

    What's best?

Should have a replacement engine coming for the one blown up by the doris. What I'd like to know from all the knowledgable folk on here is which is the best way to do the swap over - engine and box or engine only? The donor I've got has a rebuilt gearbox so ideally, I'd like to swap that...

    Will these fit a Disco?

Just to add my bit, I put classic seats into my 96 300TDi and they fitted straight in. I wired them to the power supply for the rear windows but as you've already got electrics, that shouldn't be a problem.

    Head Gasket 300 tdi

Just had to pull mine apart and was asking the same questions. If you look to the injector side of the engine, you should be able to see at least some of the notches/holes roughly around piston #3. I could see 2 holes on mine but spoke to the dealer and they only stock 3 hole or no hole ones...
