    steering damper

The feel of the damper should be exactly the same turning left or right, an unbalanced resistance could be potentially unsafe. This is the main difference in design spec over a suspension damper (they should be heavier in extension than compression).

    Clutch issues

Clutch system is a sealed circuit with no option to bleed unlike many other vehicles. Whirring on depressing the clutch can also be unfortunatly the thrust bearing failing.

What MPG do you get from your Flander

About 30-32 initially on my Td4, mixed use including some motorway runs, Risen to 37-38 since fitting a Synergy2 and new MAF. The improvement will take some time to pay for the upgrade but my primary reason was to lift the torque when towing.

    Towing

So bein as I is an old git and don't have a new license:D if you pass a test now what are the standard codes issued on a license now:confused:

    Towing

The 750Kg limit applies to everybody because it specifically applies to an unbraked trailer. The issue over the age of the licence applies to braked trailer limits and even on a new licence is much higher. It seems a bit convoluted but from what I can work out the cat C allows you to tow a...

    Heater is rubbish

Mine has the ceramic element as well and is still bloody useless. Only realised it when I saw the lights dim as I turned the control to the red area while idling:confused:

low MPG or rubbish fuel gauge?!

I certainly find the fuel guage very non-linear although mine does the opposite in that it is slow to drop at 1st and dissapears at the end. As has been said the only accurate way is to brim out the filler neck, run most of the tank off and refill to the same point. I used to get very...

    No fly zone!

Having spent years training as an aircraft engineer I would absolutely no hesitation about flying in these conditions. The examples the authorities have been quoting to justify the stance all took place when an aircraft flew through extremely dense ash columns easily visible to the naked eye...

    No fly zone!

Knew it was all a load of crap and an overreaction as soon as it happened. So now they are running test flights and finding nothing wrong. No surprise in this house People affected are going to be really ****ed to find it was all for nothing :D

    updated crankcase breather

In normal operation the crankcase would pressurise without some form of ventilation to the air. However if allowed to go straight to the atmosphere it would release engine oil as a mist. The crankcase breather is to separate out the oil but allow the pressure to normalise. The Td4 being a BMW...

Fixing a dent...anyone knows a way to do it on your own?

Being considerably less "springy" ally won't pop like steel. Also as it is softer it is better to work it with softer tools such as wood and hide as far as possible. Hard tools will easily mark the surface so should be a last resort and be very clean faced. One engineer on aircraft I worked...

    1993 Range Rover Overfinch - Keep/Sell?

Like everything else the market for minor classics is pretty flat at the moment so I would at least hold onto it for a while if you can do without the cash and as suggested get a runaround for daily work. Although for us it is a but special its not a mainstream sought after vehicle, found much...

Nonthing can prepare you for being confronted.

If the original owner was paid out by his insurance then as has been shown on several programs then the insurance company has legal ownership. You can sometimes negotiate with the insurance company to buy it at a discount but if you want to keep it you have to pay again. If you know and can...

Why can the Freelander only tow 2000kg?

I think we managed the entire run without stopping and I let the car stop me at the end. Didn't arf stretch me chain though.

Why can the Freelander only tow 2000kg?

I towed a mini with a 250cc Royal Enfield for about 2 miles, it was a bugger trying to time the traffic light around Croydon at 1 in the morning:D
  20. Missing Link

Why can the Freelander only tow 2000kg?

As much down to the design specifications as anything else. A heavier vehicle will obviously manage a heavier trailer but the towing differences don't equate to the kerbweight differences. In order to tow a heavy trailer you need good brakes, stronger drivetrain etc. Theoretically at a steady...
