    fitting electrical accessories

As to the fuse panel this is also available from maplin ATC Fuse Panel With Cover : Solar Accessories : Maplin Reg's idea is good but I would only connect one extra wire to the terminal to connect to this device which is rated at 300A continuous 1000A peak and use the stud to connect the...

    Replacing the Ignition Switch

When you get access to the lock assembly you will around the barrel a separate plastic ring with a socket on the back. This is the pickup coil for the immobiliser that energises the transponder in the key head and is nothing to do with the fob. The fob is primarily to arm the alarm system...

Looks a bit heavy for a freelander!

As I said the Freeby has a higher download than most at 145Kg (Disco is 150), 75Kg is common for a car but I agree it looks too much. The best stability with a caravan is achieved when you are close to the rated maximum. Alko hitches on caravans are normally rated at a maximum of 100Kg anyway...

    Electric Window wiring

In part to answer my own question, the thin red wire which is not on the circuit diagram is the switch illumunation. Think I've actually got two problems, the rear window inhibit switch is not closing so the door switches won't work. The other is the right rear mechanism has siezed although I...

Looks a bit heavy for a freelander!

Towball download is rated at 145Kg (which is more than many). Due to moment of action that is also defined by the distance behind the mounting points. As this mass is considerably further back than a towball I would agree that it could well be over the limit. The vast majority of the load...

    Fuel Tank Paint?

We use to paint them with a rubber based underseal and then cellulose paint. The underseal would take the knocks and as the cellulose was flexible it didn't crack. Did the same with the engine bay and it always looked immaculate.

Driving with the Tailgate window open - Safe or Not?

Aerodynamics.... The flat back of the 5 door produces a significant recircultion of air at a slightly lower pressure behind the vehicle which travels with it. Air flowing under the floor will lift the exhaust gases up into that area and a percentage will enter through the back window...

    Electric Window wiring

Couple of questions about the wiring on my 03 Td4 5 door I am investigating why the rear drivers side will not work at all and the rear passanger side will only work from the front switch only as if the console inhibit switch is depressed (its not). What I find is when the former switch in...

    Freelander "integral roll bars"

Curious about where you saw the term integral roll bar. If it is in formal LR documentation then yes it should be able to withstand rollover, after all that is what a roll bar does. It may be however somebody elses description as an interpretation of a strengthened monocoque shell. I think it...

    Why Tight on Full Lock?

Like you I was initially willing to replace the VCU as £400 for one versus £,000 for a diff/ird was no contest. The fact is providing there is good smooth movement in the VCU it will at least act as a shock absorber in the drive train anyway. I think once it locks up you lose that action and...

    Why Tight on Full Lock?

I posted a similar question last year when I got my Freelander and seemed to get conflicting responses to the same symptoms. Having looked at some detail about how the VCU works and done various tests to try and convince myself that there was nothing wrong I came to the conclusion that the...

    12s electrics advice

I have just done the same on mine. There is no cable in the loom of a high enough current to drive a full 12S socket. I bought a rear power amp wiring kit to give me a 30A cable, fuse holder etc. As has been said under the trim is fairly straightforward, I included a couple of additional cables...

What MPG do you get from your Flander

A Freeby may be lightweight in LR terms but compared to a Fiesta its still a bit of a tank. It don't take much of a lead foot to do great damage to the MPG. My higher numbers are much more the chaufeur driving than boy racer.
