    Rust!

Hi, Just been out poking around under my S3 to find any rusty bits that I'll need to replace during the rebuild. Pretty happy, nothing rusty on the chassis (touch wood!) all the main members good, outriggers good, crossmembers good. But did find something that I cant name?? (or find a part...

    What is it?

Had another look, that goes to the vacum advance on the dizzy. So wont be disaterous if it comes off. Will put a clip on sometime. Theres currently no breather pipe from the oil filler tube, just he little nipple on the oil filler with no pipe. Will fit one soon. Is it better to go down under...

    What is it?

Will put one on soon, but I dont think thats the fuel pipe. Thought the big one, with jubilee clips on is the fuel pipe (well seems to go in the right direction anyway) Whats the other one?

    What is it?

HI, Just been out to the car and had another look, on second thoughts, seems that this probably is the crankcase breather. (photos below) Obviously it should be connected to something, where should it connect too? what kidna tubing should I use?

    What is it?

Hmm, having read the above posts doesnt seem like this bit connects in the place that the pipe is blanked of on mine. Will post a photo later, dont want to not have a breather thats meant to be there!

    What is it?

Ahh always wondered what that bit was, Ive got one in a box of bits that came with the LR wondered if it needed fitting or not. Will post a photo later, Ive got a Zenith carb, my engine runs brilliantly, (was rebuilt by the previous owner, valves reground etc) the carb is all connected up, but...

    grounded again....

Just had a go at soldering to some of those terminals and turns out really well. The connection is very strong, and feels more stable/strong that the crimp connectors! Think Ill deffinitly be soldering from now on!

    grounded again....

Just picked up on this post, very interesting to hear what you say about soldering all connections. Ive just finished "patching up" (well enough to get it an MOT-Its getting a new bulkhead next year, and will put an Autosparks loom on then) the dash in my S3, and have used all crimp on...

    Yet another Capstan Question!

Seem to have solved the problem. I contacted PG Winches, and they can supply the Drive Dog for £25+carriage+VAT. Dont think thats too bad, at least I know that I can get one. One sold on Ebay last week for £51!! Above winches are big, but none of them seem to be capstans :)

    Yet another Capstan Question!

I can get to both. Guess its just a job of finding a big chunk of steel bar, milling a hole out of the middle, then cutting a thread on the other side, which is the same as the one in the end of the crank. The cutting the two slots. Sounds a bit complicated

    Yet another Capstan Question!

Thanks Had a look at that link earlier. As you say they must be available, as nearly all the capstans ive seen dont seem to come with them, so there must be loads of people with this problem! The standard starter dog for my engine (2.25 Petrol 3Main Bearing) is £6.13 (PN;506665) Just...

    Yet another Capstan Question!

just been looking at that diagram. To be honest, havnt been out to have a look at the one on the car, as weather is crap, and is soo muddy round here. Was just an idea as I dont really have access to a welder. Anybody volunteering to make me one = £10?

    Yet another Capstan Question!

Would love a capstan, and thinking about getting one for my Series 3. Have been looking at fitting them, any major problems you come across when fitting? Have heard that you need rivet nuts to hold the back of the winch plate to the front crossmember? Also, think im going to make the Capstan...
