    what is this with heatsink?

Thanks again. I am going to disconnect for the same reason. The drls I have are a warm white (the website I bought them from installed Nichia LEDs for me which are better than Cree some say) and they look great but when the dim-dips come on they look like old yellow teeth, and naff, just...

    what is this with heatsink?

EDIT - ignore the question I posed below. I have found out what dim-dip is and I will indeed disconnect the resistor now you have shown me the light (pun intended of course) because I have bought some really cool daylight running lights from www.newboatgear.co.uk (yeah, I go boating aswell as...

    Auto stalled - very WEIRD

I do not think the disc STALLED now. I think the electrics all failed (hence why power to cigar socket - powering a camera) failed. So, if all the electrics failed, the engine stopped. Have looked at ignition barrel, all looks ok. Did find a dodgy earth and an important one, from...

    what is this with heatsink?

photos attached. Found water dripping on it, so dried it and applied electrical grease and filled hole above it to stop more drips, but what is this part, please? Thanks

I want to check all my earth connections. Are there any locations I am missing from this list (found via the search on this forum, thanks) engine to chassis battery to chassis battery to inner wing gearbox to chassis? starter motor to chassis ecu earth where? ign earth via the...

    Auto stalled - very WEIRD

Many thanks for replies and pointers. Well, its not a jiggery key (at least not at key end because I jiggled it a lot and car continued to run; will have to inspect end of barrel as suggested.) It is NOT the key fob - most worryingly, she started with the key fob nowhere near the car. I...

I'll try that and post any findings here if I solve it. Thanks

    Auto stalled - very WEIRD

300tDi, ES auto, gearbox 1996/7 Driving along, applied foot brake, went to accelerate again and found disco had stalled. Indicators stopped working, wipers, cigar power outlet failed (only live when ignition is on) i.e. it was as if ignition had been turned off. Pulled into layby...

    alternator 13.2V max output

Just been round to a friend that has more space than I have so I could top up fluid levels - you know that saying:"if it doesn't leak it's empty" - well, gear box and both diffs needed more sae80/90 than I've ever had to put in before. Anyway, I'd hooked up the vsr and second battery and...

    alternator 13.2V max output

Thanks. Just edited original post because I forgot to finish a sentence stating Voltage went to below 12.7V. I will measure the amps. My meters ( a few types) compare favourably with my mate's fluke, but I wouldn't use his meter in case I dropped / other way of damaging it.

    alternator 13.2V max output

disco 1, 1996 300Tdi. Alternator kicks out 13 and a bit Volts (and I know that is already low), but turn on air con, or even side lights and the volts (measured via a voltmeter that fits into cigar lighter from New Boat Gear - [I don't think there is much voltage drop from battery to cigar...

    cheap extra grip for tyres?

yep, just clicked on the link and the actual 'fake' video is on their website ! Amazing how some people don't even know how to use second gear to stop spining or to reverse up slopes if frony wheel driven cars. But that website screams scam in my opinion.

    cheap extra grip for tyres?

Yup, Ive seen that. Biggest pile of crock I reckon (have never tested it to be fair). I carry sand instead - much cheaper. There is a youtube video of that spray stuff; a before and after shot and a lot of comments left stating that the before shot was taken with the hand brake on just to show...

    cheap extra grip for tyres?

Now that bloke is NUTS. Half an hour per tyre? Tie himself up in knots? Come loose and go under rear tyre - that'll break something. Absolutley NUTS.

    cheap extra grip for tyres?

Well, from the replies I won't be spending a fiver, so I'll let someone else shell out and see what it is. As someone pointed out, if it was good, we'd probably all know about it already, or maybe be able to buy it from our landy shops. Think I'll get the xcls off the rims and put some winter...

    cheap extra grip for tyres?

I am thinking of the snow that has arrived. I have a set of xcls, but they are a bit worn. Dont' really want to faff with snow chains. Saw this on ebay, item number: 281052662379 Have no idea what it is - has anyone bought / dealt with this seller before or got an idea what they are selling...

Lucas "Stop Leak" for steering boxes

I will eventually have to change the box. As it was a small leak, it has given me time (hopefully until Spring). So, for small leaks, worht the money to save time, but will never be a longtime solution. cheers
