    Disco 1 misfire,1995 3.9 V8

That sounds encouraging. Did you test the old air flow meter to see if it was duff or just in need of adjustment? Testing is easy enough with a digital volt meter, you can check CO trim and air flow. Also, don't forget with a later catalyst engine like yours should be, once warm, the ecu ignores...

3.9 Efi to carbs, how to?

Vac advance doesn't do much at idle but if the vac advance unit is shot you essentially get an inlet air leak which can upset the way the engine idles. Also, a duff vac unit will mean throttle response is slow because you done get the right amount of advance to pick up engine speed off idle...

3.9 Efi to carbs, how to?

Why would you want carbs? Don't give up on it. The EFI is not complicated. Search this section for possible checks and tests I promise at one time or another I have posted how to investigate pretty much the whole system. You need to remember misfires can be ignition or efi, sometimes deciding...

    Disco 1 misfire,1995 3.9 V8

Guys, you can adjust a throttle pot. You can slightly enlarge the mounting holes with a needle file so you can achieve the small amount of movement required to adjust it. As I have suggested before, get in to the V8 section and do a search, I have posted on efi and ignition checks and fixes.

    Disco 1 misfire,1995 3.9 V8

Two things maybe to look at 1: vac advance - is it working, or is there a vacumm leak on the inlet side somewhere. 2: get the dvm out and check your throttle pot for base voltage setting then also check scaling. As I think may have been suggested, might be worth checking your ignition timing...

    Hertfordshire Lanes?????

Hello down there!! I see there is almost a heartbeat here. Whats with all these sprogs!! Wow how things change. I was just reminiscing about some of the adventures we had way back when this thread started, the people who have gone but not forgotten and those who have faded away. I miss the...

1994 RRC Classic LSE Viscous Coupling or Electronic Diff broken?

If the viscous coupling goes you get issues on tarmac. AFAIK a '94 LSE will have traction control that operates on the back wheels only, the abs system monitors wheel speed and applies the brakes to gain traction so it sounds like the system was operating as intended and the limiting factor was...

Carb V8 hesitant, holding back, cutting out, difficult to start but then runs

I think Discool is on the right line. Depending on which carbs you have, maybe look at popping the tops off and checking the diaphragms are in one piece, if the needles can't rise properly then you will have all sorts of funny running, also check ignition timing.

    Range Rover electrical Gremlins

Removing the air con on a classic doesn't affect the PITA getting to the resistor pack. It was a while ago when I did mine but pretty sure there is no really viable option than remove the bonnet, then the scuttle and then you can swap the resistor pack which takes about 2 mins!

3.9 V8 revs high on start up?

If it is stuck stepper it might rev to about 2k. I can't see how it could go higher if the throttle butterfly is closing properly. If you suspect stuck stepper I think I would be inclined to suggest you take off and clean the plenum and ram housing, while you're about it, check the throttle...

Classic 1991 3.9 EFI Auto - Fuel pump relay

No, swapping them over won't allow it to start because if one is faulty you'll remove power from the fuel pump or from the ECU. Both need power for the engine to run. Pull the relays out and rig up a couple of test leads and put power on them and check for switching. The relays failing is not...

    Classic Which MAF?

3AM MAF can be checked/tested using a digital volt meter. Do this first. The later 5AM air flow meter should be alright to use. I can confirm that it is possible for the ECU to have a fault that means it doesn't read the air flow meter in which case you will need a replacement ECU. Also, is your...

Before you jump in to code readers and diagnostics I would recommend learning to use a digital volt meter to check the EFI components and the ignition system. As for a code reader, search for Ecumate, great piece of kit imho.

3.9 as flat as a pancake

Absolutely! My '91 breezes the emissions test, passed again just last week. You would need a noticeable engine/injection and/or ignition problem not to pass the basic emissions test but no way can you get the emissions to meet catalyst test limits, I tried just for a giggle and was close but...

    Range rover classic over fuelling

An ignition problem could cause a lambda problem but there would be other running problems. The OP doesn't say if there is a notable misfire or stumble or even if it idles well or otherwise so it is (like so many) a bit of a needle hunt in the proverbial haystack. I would have to admit that...

If I understand what you have said, I think you have an O2 sensor problem and it is likely you have replaced loads of bits unnecessarily. I know you say you have new lambda sensors but have you checked they are actually working? The Lambda 100% trim is the clue. I recently helped a guy with a...

    Classic RRC '86 aircon retrofit

I think it would be quite involved. I would think the whole heater box needs to come out and be swapped. Also, I think you need to look at the ECU for the fuel injection because the A/C load is supposed to cause the ECU to raise the idle speed slightly. Additionally, the A/C condenser fans need...
