Classic RR Classic 1989 (3.9L V8 Auto) - Cuts Out

New amplifier is good. It would be worthwhile checking the rest of the ignition system though. So have a look at leads, plugs, rotor arm and dizzy cap These motors don't like aftermarket ignition parts. I don't think you can get OE amplifiers but the Intermotor ones seem O.K. For rotor arm and...

Classic RR Classic 1989 (3.9L V8 Auto) - Cuts Out

Dunno if you sorted this yet but FWIW I would suspect ignition amplifier. If you swap the amplifier, it is possible with care to do it without pulling the distributor but to be honest it is just as easy to pop the dizzy out, but make sure you mark the position of the distributor before you pop...

    Question About Plastic Trim

Black rubbery/plastic stuff often comes up great after a coat or two of boiled linseed oil. Peanut butter apparently does work but I've never tried it. Back to black and other preparations don't really handle bleached plastic very well in my experience. I have recently been using Dodo Juice...

    Range rover classic new springs

I don't know much about diesel Range Rovers but my 3.9 has HD springs which comprise standard rear springs on the front then slightly stiffer (red and white "police spec") on the rear. The HD springs give a small raise, about 1 inch but the ride is not noticeably compromised. However, it should...

    Disco 2 V8 Auto misfire

Misfire might be related to O2 sensors, maybe? Not sure how the engine management on a D2 deals with them but on the old 14CUX hotwire system the ecu ignores the O2 sensors until the engine is warm so can run fine when cold and at WOT but be a nightmare in between with misfiring and rough...

For fcuk sake it's happening again aghhhhhhhhh

Forgot to say, Discool may be right and you have just flooded it. It does happen (quite easily) so you never know! Maybe pull all the plugs, give them a clean and then pop them back in. If you can, warm the plugs up then put them in (quickly before all the heat sinks in to the heads) then crank...

For fcuk sake it's happening again aghhhhhhhhh

If you have fuel it suggests everything up to the coil is good because if the ignition amplifier, dizzy pick up or ignition switch was at fault there could be no fuel because the efi ecu takes a "run" signal off the coil. Have you checked your rotor arm and dizzy cap? Might also be worth making...

    Hertfordshire Lanes?????

Belated Happy New Year and all that. Yes Jai I am mending slowly. I am walking again but only slowly. Have started driving again as well which is a bonus. Got to do inlet manifold gasket on the Rangie, not sure if I can stand up long enough to do it in one go but one way or another I will get it...

V8 3.9 EFI sort of mis fire

Interesting. My gut reaction would have been to suggest inlet manifold leak but if you have a new one, maybe not. Have you run a compression test? I think I would want to check all is good on cylinder compressions. If you have one, try doing a vacuum gauge test, sometimes a vacuum gauge is a...

    RRC, 1983, 3.5v8 - no Spark

I'm sorry if I've missed something here but it sounds like the issue is the trigger to collapse the coil field inducing the HT spark. So if you have points, I'd be looking there. If you have all electronic ignition check usual suspects - ignition amplifier, pick up and reluctor air gap. Also...

    Hertfordshire Lanes?????

Hey boys, nice to hear from you. As to what I did, well it is a bit stupid - see I was up on top of the barn roof patching a couple of small holes in the corrugated sheet roof. All was going well. I needed to get my hammer which had slid down on to the lean-to roof that abuts the main barn. The...

Thanks Jai. Been in here for 3 weeks now, I expect to be in for another week then they will send me home but I am not allowed to put any weight on my legs. I did make a bit of a mess of myself but the good news is I am expected to make a full recovery so my aim is to be walking again before...

    RRC mirror's

If this thread is still active by the time I get out of hospital I will have a look at the wiring diagrams for my non-memory seats/mirrors and see if I can point you in the right direction.

    RRC mirror's

What you need to bear in mind is that seat ECU is essentially a couple of driver IC's and some memory chips that "remember" the relative positions of seats and mirrors. They are arranged to create XYZ switching and memory, or at least it is something like that. If you open the seat ECU you will...

    RRC Brakes sticking on

Not had the exact same problem but have experienced one caliper sticking. I resolved it with a combination of bleeding the system - I know it is a PITA but it is the only way, also clean the calipers and push the pistons back and then CAREFULLY (with an assistant) operate the brakes to push the...

    RRC mirror's

The mirror motors should work. What you might want to do is look at the wiring diagram for your car and then look at a wiring diagram for an earlier model that doesn't have the memory seats. My '91 doesn't have the memory seats and the wiring is different so in theory I can't see why you...

    3.9 v8 (very) poor starting

Thank you for your get well wishes. It is going to be a bit of a haul, I expect to be in hospital for at least another 2 weeks. Timing chain swap is easy enough, remember though you need to loosen the sump to deal with the timing cover gasket correctly, so you might want to thunk in terms of...
