    Disco 3.5v8 loss of power

It might be worth looking at the main feed to the starter motor. Remove the big cable and give it a clean. Clean the terminals on the starter motor then throw it back together and see if that helps.

Classic RR Classic - 3.9 V8 Mechanical pre purchase checks

Sorry it didn't work out but very glad you were able to walk away. If it only was a cam that wouldn't be so bad - a cam swap is achievable in a weekend assuming no dramas. Wet footwells, mmmmm.......RUST! Good luck with your search.

That is a truly heroic effort, much respect. Good luck with rebuilding the engine (if it can be salvaged).

Classic Digital Haynes Service & Repair Manual? (MY 1991)

Cats or not depends on manufacturing date; not aware it was an option. I suspect it will be non-cat but well worth checking as O2 sensors are known to cause running and idle issues when they start to play up. ABS was standard on Vogue SE, not sure about Vogue. Bleeding the ABS system on these...

Classic RR Classic - 3.9 V8 Mechanical pre purchase checks

No problem. BTW on engine pick up, it will bog slightly if you yank the throttle open but then rev quickly - this is normal but on the road and under load it should pull strongly with no misfires, stutters or hesitation. If you want a giggle, manually shift the gears, you can hold it on the cam...

Classic RR Classic - 3.9 V8 Mechanical pre purchase checks

RUST. Diff pans - rust. Shock turrets - more rust. Brake pipes - rust. ABS make sure it works. Wheel bearings. Swivel pre-load. Steering damper. Ignition system. Cooling system - open the pressure cap and see if there is evidence of stop leak additives. Check the radiator, any snail trails...

Classic Digital Haynes Service & Repair Manual? (MY 1991)

I don't know about a pdf of the manual but the genuine workshop manual is essential. You also need to understand that 1991 was a model changeover year meaning some bits might be from the 1990MY; for example, my '91 RRC had 1990MY front axle - this is important because the 1990 front axle...

    3.9 v8 timming update

Assuming you are happy that you have the basic bits right it looks like you need to focus on the spark bit of the cycle. The ignition system is very simple on these engines. The loss of spark suggests that you are either losing the trigger for the coil field to collapse to induce the spark or...

    3.9 v8 timming update

FWIW the timing looked retarded, the rotor arm should be past No1 at TDC so you're probably a tooth or maybe two out on the dizzy drive. That engine sounds like it is struggling to turn over, is the battery up to the job? It should spin quicker than that. Coil location is unusual. Not sure how...

Range Rover Classic Looking for a rolling project RR Classic

You still looking for an RRC? If you're interested I have an LSE that I want to move on. Not sure if it what you want as it is not exactly a "rolling" restoration. I don't want stupid money for it and I will include my assorted collection of RRC parts. If you might be interested, drop me a PM.

My Discovery 1 3.9 v8i cuts out when warm, lacks power ! HELP PLEASE

Well if it starts and runs the basic bits are there so it will be something silly. If you have cats idling the engine to warm it over time may have affected the O2 sensors; when cold this is not too much of an issue but when the engine gets to about 70Deg. C lambda control takes over and if the...

Range Rover 3.9 ltr elf in a 90 - not starting

Sounds like you are just guessing. You will not find the problem, understand why or what and then if it is miraculously "fixed" you have not learned anything. Sorry to sound harsh but you need to STOP. I know you will be mad keen to get it up and running but seriously, you need to have a clear...

    Solenoid problem

Ratae makes a fair point, however, you might first want to try undoing all the connections and cleaning them then putting them back making sure all are securely fixed. Make sure you disconnect the battery first! Also, while you're at it, check/clean the main earth. I had similar problems as...

    Hertfordshire Lanes?????

Glenn, nice to hear from you. You're on! Perhaps we should see if we can get a re-union organised. You in touch with any of the others? I spoke to Jai a little while ago but he was rushing about so couldn't swing by. Lewis, glad to see you on the forum. Happy you made it safe and sound. I know...

No worries Rusty, you're welcome to pick my brain if you can find it! Hahahahahaha I liked that. To some extent I am indeed an RRC kinda guy but I couldn't get around the fact I can't stay on my feet too long and I now have restricted mobility and iffy balance because my feet/ankles don't work properly which means keeping a 30 year old RRC on the road is just a...

Hi Rusty! For sure pop round if you're up in N.Wales, I might have something of interest so I'll drop you a PM. Anyway, I agree, very small air leaks from the TPS and maybe a bit from the plenum wouldn't necessarily be a big issue and it doesn't explain the low cylinder temperature on No.4...
