I had a set of Scooby seats with the middle seat still in. They do hang over the middle one a bit but it will help keep the young one in place, cos you won't fit an adult in it.

For what it costs put a new rad & heater matrix in. Mine used to do the same & only on a motorway as well.

Have you tried putting some grease on it to start with.

Just need 1 or 2 14mm spanners. You may be able to get an adjustable on one nut but you'll need a 14 for the other. They are 9/16 but will go on with a bit of force

Check to see if they still have power going to them when switched off. LED's don't need a lot.
