Thanx for the info. Looks like there is plenty of room for them to fit then. I just didn't want to waste a whole load of cash buying them just to find that they would not fit.

OK everyone. Latest update......... I have just ordered a salisbury axle with disc brakes from the net. Hopefully this will be in good order ( the breakers say it is anyway).... ha ha casn you ever trust what they say??????? I'll post it on here as to what condition it's in etc when i get it...

Have found a salisbury axle complete with callipers etc on the net for £300. This is probably the best way to go for me so now I just need to make certain that it is a defender salisbury axle and not a disco one.

More like "what's right with it". Bearings, diff oil seals etc and of course I also want to get some decent alloy wheels/off road tyres on it so I thought the best way to go was to change the axle rather than repair the old one. So anyway.........i'm still looking for an axle that fits....if...

Hiya, I have a 1990 defender 110. Just changed the engine/gearbox etc. It's now fitted with 300tdi and R380 box. When I got the engine changed I had to have 2 new propshafts anyway so I don't want to buy any others. The guy who is gonna change the axle says the only option is to get a salisbury...

I suppose that is why the guy told me that i need the salisbury axle then. Tyring to find one could be quite difficult though. I have an enquirey out on the net but so far the only quote I have had is for £500+. That's too much for me!!!!

OK, you talked me into it. Have purchased a temp gauge on Ebay now. Hopefully this will now work correctly

Have now cleaned every earth I can find, cheched as much wiring as I can....... still shorting out SO........It's off to a Landy garage to see if they can find the problem. Anyone got a gallon of petrol and a box of matches handy??

Just an update, Went down to my local landy workshop and they tested the engine temp for me. Although the gauge read hot the temperature was just 90 c so it is the gauge/sender unit that are incomaptable. I just needed to confirm this. So now it's off to the shops (again) to get an aftermarket...

Thanks for that. So, does anyone know if a td5 water tem gauge is comapatale with a 300tdi water temp sender unit??

Thanks for the info mudhunter. I was hoping that this was the cause as this is cheap to fix having just spent a small fortune on a 300tdi engine etc. All I have to do now is find a gauge from a tdi

I also need to know if the sender unit and gauge are really incompattable

I think that the 2.5td sender has a different thread to it. I don't want to start re threading things as with my luck i'll just end up with a big unusable hole

Getting off the subject of the damned fuses for a moment. Has anyone fitted the "wright off road" accoustic mats to their defender? if so....are they worth the money???? If they are, then maybe i'll get a radio in mine too, but only if i can get to actually hear it.....
