The car still moves! Took it for a 50 mile round trip and drove like a dream. Gears are crispier than ever. When I switch to R or D there is like no forceful engagement or nothing just so smooth. It even switches gears up on the hill because it is way more comfortable to drag its heavy arse up...

So what was the problem before the repair?

Well MOT mainly is a visual test apart from the safety e.g. brakes etc. but you should sort out the play in the suspension and steering first otherwise there won't be MOTs. =)
