    Roll cages and seat belts

    Any more thoughts guys?

    Swapping brakes

Thats good enough for me. Its not that tricky to put a balance valve in afterwards anyway I guess. Thanks.

    Roll cages and seat belts

Well thats what I thought!! But the earlier threads seem to suggest that that might not be wholly correct. I know nothing about this so all information received with thanks!

    Roll cages and seat belts

Hi, Thanks for the replies. I was looking at something like this (not sure if this links to the actual one but the something like the last photo on the blue 90 is what I was looking at): Land Rover 90 Hard / Soft Top Full External Roll Cage Are you saying that such a cage won't give...

    Roll cages and seat belts

I've been looking at the possibility of having 3 or 4 point harnesses for the 90. I would like them but equally don't want to lose all space in the back for additional passengers or load space. Doing the ground up rebuild I have a pretty blank canvass. Has anyone considered a cross member...

    Swapping brakes

Hi Wiltshire. Thanks for that. Was that a straight swap for a fender rear axle with drum brakes? From what i can gather the RR brakes were 46mm dia pistons on the back so shouldn't be a problem with the 41mm pistons I've got. Do you think there might be any benefit in putting a balance...

    Swapping brakes

For those not keeping up with the rebuild (!), it was a 1987, 90 with a 3.5l V8. That's being rebuilt at the moment on a 3.9l short engine. Anyway, attention is turning to the brakes. Front is sorted - I've got a zeus vented disc conversion kit with S/S pistons, new discs and pads...

    Re-build

I've just taken mine to the machine shop (£1,500 for all the work - not yet sure it is worth it) and his experience is that they do run very dry at the top and it was very common and a good idea to increase the pressure to get more oil up to the rockers and rocker shafts. 60psi comes from the...

    Re-build

I'm no expert and I'm only telling you what I have read from the book and picked up from the web. However, the ARP stud and bolt kit on the main caps is recommended to prevent the registers fretting (especially on the earliest blocks), drilling the over pressure release cap (tap it and put a...

    Re-build

There is a very good book that comes highly recommended from engine builders - its called how to power tune a V8. There is quite a lot of stuff in there about racing modifications to the rover engines but there is also a large amount of information about the engines themselves, development...

    Belt tensioner bearings

Interestingly I thought that it was the bearing and have replaced it several times as the noise from the belt wouldn't really go away (new bearings improved it but didn't cure). Anyway, did the cam belt and replaced the fan belt at the same time - runs quietly and sweetly now - must have been...

    Fuel starvation??

Thanks for all the suggestions. I got someone to have a look at it and he checked pretty much everything that has been suggested. All lines were fine, petrol cap fine. There is a small gauze filter in the feed line from the filter to the pump - checked that and it was clean. It obviously...

    Fuel starvation??

Timing belt was done probably 500 miles before the problem started so I had pretty much ruled that out. It was awful this morning - only got about 200 yds from home before it cut out. Still no visual issues. I'm going to have to get underneath it soon - not that attractive at the moment!!

    Fuel starvation??

Chatting to somebody last night, they suggested that it sounded like frozen fuel in the injectors - when you stop the engine temp warms up the fuel and it starts again. Sound a possibility? I don't know whether Tesco fuel has the additives at this time of year.

    Fuel starvation??

I changed the filter when I did the cam belt not so long ago. I will replace it again just in case there is a problem with the filter. Interesting about the comment of the full tank - filled it up today and its been an absolute nightmare (it has been miserable here too in terms of weather)...

    Fuel starvation??

I don't think there is anything where the sedimenter was. As far as I can tell it wasn't fitted to all vehicles. I know it hasn't been removed because my father owned it from new before I bought it. Re fuel lines - I see that it is a vacuum but wouldn't there be a trace when the vehicle is...

    Fuel starvation??

How did you check them? Can you see fuel coming out of them?
  18. J

    Fuel starvation??

Had a look yesterday. As far as I can tell I don't have a fuel sedimenter - I've traced the fuel lines from the tank to the pump and there is nothing between the two. There are no leaks anywhere that might suggest a leak of fuel / air being drawn into the system. However, what I did...

    Gearbox numbers

For anyone reading this - I couldn't find the number on the gearbox but spoke to Paddock spares and they told me that at that age it was certainly the later part. I've fitted the later part and it is correct and works fine. Thanks, Jon
