    snapped timing belt on 200tdi

If the timing belt has snapped the pistons will hit the valves. Unless you have been extremely lucky I would have thought you'd know about the broken timing belt. Easy way of telling though - take the rocker cover off and turn it over by hand and see what you can see.

    Richards v Marsland?

Had a look on this site and it seems that the question hasn't been asked for a while. Any fresh views? Ideas so far seem to be that the Richards has a thicker wall but as a consequence is very heavy.

    TD5 diesel leak

Jason, Had a look at it over the weekend. Can't see anything obvious. The rate at which it leaked from nothing to pouring out (a week or so) I'd guess the problem is in the regulator looking thingy at the end. There might be some seals in there but no idea how to change them. I don't...

    Fitting a Rover P38 4.0 V8 HSE into a 110?

These guys come highly recommended, not from me but others on the Cobra forum have had very good service from them and seem to rate them quite highly. ExtraEFI.co.uk HOME

    TD5 diesel leak

Hi Jason, I have to admit that I've changed it and haven't had a chance to look at the old one properly let alone recondition it. There was no obvious problem with o rings and the gasket is a metal item as far as I can remember. I couldn't find a repair kit anywhere for it. I'll have a...

    Defender 110 CSW respray?

Spray putty is pretty good although the surface has to be near perfect before its any benefit - it doesn't fill very much. I'd still lacquer afterwards to increase the strength of the finish though.

    Defender 110 CSW respray?

I doubt you'd get much more than a quick (poor) back street spray job on a 110 for £500 given the amount of stuff that should come off / should be properly masked off. If the paint is good quality 2 pack base and then 2 pack lacquer you'll probably be talking close to £500 for that alone (cobra...

    Drive train strength

Sorry - no idea why that appears twice!

    Drive train strength

Yup - apologies for my sloppy use of English - I know that its torque that really matters. Perhaps a little background might help - just finished building a cobra (21st Century Cobra! sounds-legal.com present 'The Beast') with a 6.4l stroked and race tuned Ford 351 Windsor. One of my regrets...

    Drive train strength

I totally agree - I'm undertaking a full chassis up rebuild so all will be taken into account. Any ideas on drivetrain strength?

    Drive train strength

I've heard some different stories about the strength of the drivetrain on the defender. Basically I want to play around with the engine and look to get a little over 200bhp on a standard 90 Defender 1987. I have heard some reports that the drivetrain is only good for about 180bhp...

    Possible clutch problem

If the clutch slave and master haven't been touched its unlikely that air has got in unless there is a complete coincidence of a problem in the master. Sounds like an adjustment issue. 1st thing to check is slave travel - get someone to depress the clutch while ur under the car and you should...

    90 V8 rebuild list

Thanks Jim. I realise its an open question! I'm probably going to go down the latter route and it will cost me far more money than I have got / than it should do!! I have the workshop manuals - they do give a list of parts but was just wondering if people had a list of bits that they...

    90 V8 rebuild list

Evening Guys, I'm being a little lazy. I've got a 90 V8, D reg which I'm going to rebuild from the ground up. Has anyone kept a list of all the parts that they used on such a rebuild? I have built a car and know that the most annoying things on the weekends set aside for building is all...

    TD5 diesel leak

Thanks for the offer Charles. As I said though I finally found that link that I posted in the last reply and that seems to work although it is not particularly reliable (although that may be my slightly old computer at work). Thanks again for all your help and words of wisdom. We'll see how...

    TD5 diesel leak

Never had much luck with the cheap 'O' rings - they have always had a tendency to breakdown pretty quickly in my experience. I've ordered a regulator anyway now - I'll change it and then re-con the old one and put it back into stock. It sounds like its a pretty common fault so the chances are...

    TD5 diesel leak

BTW - this is the only link for the TD5 that I found that worked / wasn't in German!! http://green-oval.com/joomla/index.php?option=com_docman&task=cat_view&gid=13&Itemid=29

    TD5 diesel leak

Any idea where I can get a repair kit for this item. Seems silly to pay £90 for 4 'O' rings and a paper gasket - particularly when the manual says that its a serviceable part!

    TD5 diesel leak

Thanks Charles. That is very helpful. I'll get the service pack and let you know what happens. Can't find the RAVE CD for the TD5 - all I seem to keep getting is the older version. I'll keep looking.
