Can you trace that larger black cable? It looks like a control cable and I wonder whether it is (or was) connected to the throttle body somewhere?

I had the same issue on my old 1.8, I used a load of silicone sealant on both parts and stuck it back together and left it overnight. It did the job for a good couple of years until I changed the car.

I have one very similar to that but mine has Tm on it - turns out it was part of an old 'Traffic Master' system that was in the car long before I got it.

I'm pretty sure that's the clutch slave cylinder bleeder, assuming that you have a TD4. Someone with a lot more knowledge than me can probably confirm it.

After a bit more investigation the two prop bearings either side of the VCU were gone big time. Replaced them and it's all back to normal now, no knocking anywhere.

Replaced the rear diff centre mount, on the floor with no ramps. Sore shoulders now! Didn't fix the knocking problem though o_O

I can depend on what distances you are doing - when I had my 1.8 I used to get around 18 mpg normally but that was because I was doing about 2 miles or less each trip so it was never really warm. If I took it on a run it did do 30+ mpg though.

Sounds like VCU...are your tyres all the same and are the least worn on the rear? Could try to swap them front to rear and see if the noise goes.

I was cleaning up the headlights today and I noticed that a fly has some how got stuck inside the indicator, between the outer plastic and the inner lens. No idea how it got there...has anyone got any ideas how to get it out without damaging the light?

Polished up the headlights ready for MOT in a few weeks time, they had gone cloudy. Didn't take too long and wasn't particularly difficult to do luckily! :D

Took my cover off the spare wheel other day and it got me thinking whether to bother putting it back on...my other half says she thinks it looks better without it. What's peoples views and are there any advantages / disadvantages or having one or not?

I have 16" 5 spoke alloys on the car ('05 TD4), I think they are called Freedom. I noticed that my spare (taken from my old '01 1.8) has small holes between the wheel nut holes, but the four on the car don't. Does any one know the reason for the holes (or dimples)? Cheers
