    The car'sthe star

Watching SKYFALL the other day, and during the obligatory pre-credit action(?) sequence in which Bond and Moneypenny have a car/train chase in a silver defender ( total damage to 'Fender= 2 broken wing mirrors. Must be on a tight budget these days) I got to thinking about other similar movie...

    Buying a Q plate

A fair point but not strictly correct. Being refused insurance is more driver related than vehicle. Any way, if the question you ask before you go into driver or vehicle details is 'will you insure a Q plated vehicle?', if they say sorry but no then move on to the next call. You wont have been...

    Buying a Q plate

The reason explained to me when I was issued a Q plate ( I scratch built a couple of trikes a few years back) was to denote the vehicle was of uncertain or unknown manufacture or origin, and was to protect future buyers as, once issued, a Q plate can never be registered with a different number (...

    Who says brakes are easy?????

'Twas only in jest. Couldn't afford to maintain the disco on a single income!

    Who says brakes are easy?????

Dont let my wife hear you mention UPGRADES! I bought this landy (80k miles, f.s.h., 2 owners) purely as a tow vehicle for our twin axle caravan. It was just going to be a workhorse with no fancy bits..... Unfortunately I'm getting carried away in the euphoria of landy ownership and now keep...

    Who says brakes are easy?????

Interesting info there guys, particularly replacing the front pipe with flexi. I wasn't able to release the pipe brackets on the top of the swivel as I could only get a socket onto one of them, the brake pipe very neatly went straight over the other one leaving only room for a spanner and it was...

    Who says brakes are easy?????

Hi all, I'm in the process of fitting new discs and pads to the front of my '96 disco and thought I would share the experience with you as a cautionary tale for anyone thinking of tackling it. I found the threads and links on here showing the best way to do it and, being reasonably competent on...

    No clutch

Yup, that was it. Had to take it in to a garage as there's no way I was rolling around underneath it outside in this weather. £460 for a H/D clutch and fork. He showed me the old clutch, there was no friction surface left, just a few rivets hanging out of it and the clutch cover was wrecked. He...

    No clutch

there is some pressure on the pedal, but not as much as before. The pressure just went very suddenly and completely ( the pedal wasn't returning back up to its rest position) which is what made me think initially that the hydraulics had gone. I kept it in first to get back home, there was plenty...

    No clutch

fortunately I live next door to a small motor engineers workshop. He's gonna look at it tomorrow for me but I'm just wondering what to expect. Any danger thats its a gearbox issue and not connected to the clutch at? Last thing I need is a bill for a new box.

    No clutch

yup, can engage gear fine, just no clutch bite to move off. There was a little bite when the pressure first came back on the pedal so it definitely felt then like the clutch was just spinning, but I'm puzzled by the fact that this was immediately preceded by non disengagement of the clutch as...

    No clutch

just pulled away and went to change to second, no clutch pedal pressure and couldnt get gear. So, clutch pedal not disengaging the clutch plate, guessing hydraulics, right? limped a few yards down the road in first and managed to turn without having to stop and got back on the drive. No fluid...

    Oil leak round injectors

    Sorry. Paul

    Oil leak round injectors

Its the one at the rear and the third from rear ( situated behind a small black tank like unit. I cant see any evidence of oil above this or on the side of the head around the injectors, presumably the oil would only be able to leak externally from the rocker to reach this point which would...

    Oil leak round injectors

Def. engine oil and def not running down from the rocker cover, injector seat is completely clean. Its coming out from round the lug that the injector clamp plate sits on ( not the central bolt). Can get a pic but have no idea how to post it on here. does the injector clamp plate hold something...

    Oil leak round injectors

After cleaning the engine and getting rid of all the old gunge, I can now see an obvious oil seepage near the diesel injectors. Its not the injector seats themselves, but there is a centrally bolted flange plate, oval-ish in shape, that obviously holds the injector in its seat. The other end of...

    Remote locking issue

just had a weird thing happen with the remote locking. '96 disco 2.5d, has a key and a remote fob with two buttons, one to lock it and one to unlock it. Has worked fine since having the car but this morning I unlocked it with the emote as usual and sat in it with the door open for about 10...

    Tyre Compatibilty

Ok, want to 'man-up' the disco a little and (in my opinion) the 205 tyres look a bit girly in those big arches. Read all the threads I can find on what will fit without modding, but cant find info on what rim size to go for. So, I'm looking at 235/70 A/T's as I reckon they'll pad out the arches...
