    that darn check engine light!

Mark, Have you still got the problem ? I had the same issue with the injector only mine took a long while to finally fail. I found a guy on E bay who breaks Disco's and who was quite happy to sell me a S/H injector with sensor for the same price as a normal one. With postage it came to no...

New Thread old topic Rear Wiper not working

Thinking about it again, and probably answering my own question. I probably had one of the rear doors on the latch. I think that this is enough to prevent the rear wiper from working, doesn't the cct require all doors to be fully closed ?

New Thread old topic Rear Wiper not working

It might sound a silly question, but, are you trying the wiper when the car is stationary ? I just had a really weird fault on mine when I was getting it ready for the mot. I changed the rear wiper blade, changed the front blades, adjusted the washer jets, then thought I'd check the rear jet...

    How slow 300tdi auto

My motor was experiencing intermittent misfires. These could happen at any time or throttle position. A lot of people have had problems with the throttle potentiometer that sound similar to this. I had the codes read and they recorded "Engine speed" fault. Of course it didn't happen while I was...

    How slow 300tdi auto

If you have the bits for the resistor mod' then try removing the plug in the head and inserting the high value resistor. At least then you'll prove if this part is having an effect on the starting. Trust me, the crank sensor and the #4 injector sensor play a big part in the engine running. if...

    How slow 300tdi auto

Is your starting problem only during cold weather ? Try searching on here for threads on "cold start problems". There is a modification for this common tdi EDC problem that has been posted. It involves connecting a resistor into the plug on top of the head and then trying to start the lump...

Have you checked if you are losing any water, or if there is any oil in the header tank ?

    London Low Emission Zone

I didn't think that Disco's were included as they aren't classed as a utility vehicle. I know that all pre-date Defenders are though. The TD5 meets the emission spec, my mate had to cough up extra for one when he really wanted a 300tdi. Look out for lots of 300tdi defenders coming up for sale...

    Check engine light

Graham, sounds like you may have found the culprit. I examined my #4 injector wiring before, and after, changing it. I couldn't see a problem anywhere with it. I expected to see a kink, a pinch point or even feel a broken wire internally. Not a thing. :scratching_chin: I'm driving around...

    Check engine light

If you can find a place to do it cheaply, firstly get your codes read. I presume that you have a 300 tdi auto box, which will be EDC control for injection. I had a similar problem over Christmas after having the head off for the standard blown gasket work. You say that you have also just...

    Is this a MAF problem?

Your second cable, the one that goes to the pivot mechanism on the pump, is your kickdown cable for the autobox.

    Is this a MAF problem?

Guys, was looking through this months edition of "Car Mechanics", the inside back page has an advert for Tuning Diesels. Full page ad' for what sounds very much like the Roverron Maf improver you were talking about. This time it's called "Synergy 2". The stunning difference is the price...

    Is this a MAF problem?

There's a possibility that it could also be being caused by the number 4 injector. This has the inductive sensor in it. I've just had all sorts of problems as a result of this damn thing. Mostly misfires though. It finally ended up as the CEL flashing on at about 1200 rpm and off when I...

    Air temp sensor

The air temp sensor is definitely located at the back of the intake manifold, just changed mine. Mine was stuck at a reading of -4 degrees. As previously explained, remove the engine noise cover and reach as far back as you can on the right of the engine (as you look from the front). It's...

A few faults for u guys

300tdi will be lift pump only. However, the fuel pickup in the tank can suck up bits of crud and block under load. Try running it without the filler cap and see if that makes any difference. Change your fuel filter when you change your lift pump as well.

    newbie needing help

Try running it without the fuel filler cap as well, see if it makes a difference. Sometimes the vents in the cap go faulty and it can cause fuelling prolems. The other thing is crap being sucked up into the pickup pipe in the tank. make sure you blow the line from the sedimenter back into the tank.

    300tdi Cold Weather problems

You can buy a replacement plastic tap and washer, but I'm sure that there is an old thread on the forum that will tell you what the actual metric thread size is. I think it was M6 or M8, not sure which. A search should find the right topic. You can then replace the plastic tap with a decent bolt.

    Anyone we know?

Now why didn't I think of that, it would have made waxoyling a whole lot easier. Agreed, o/s/r. But, give the driver a spade first and tell him to dig out the o/s/f area to make life easier. Not actually necessary but it gives you something to watch whilst you are hooking up the winch.

Glow plug light not coming on

Sorry, meant to put the bit about checking the plug timer relay first if the issue is poor starting, as opposed to a complete failure to start.
