if you washed it out with water, wouldn't the heat from the engine running just dry it out and as the starter turns over it should clean the face of the brushes(i thnk)

thanks, mine turns up tomorrow, had heard the water seal is abit iffie. wont have the problem with the ariel as i broke it the other day on a tree:doh: so gonna just take it out. did you need to block any drain holes in the air box as ive been told there is a few.

welcome to the club, i had a pulley sized on me which broke the belt and the knackered damper. yes its rare on the td5 common on the td4. for **** sake though make sure the guy change's the bolt that holds the damper on, it not part of the kit and its a one time only fitment, does up to about...
thats not such a stupid idea ( well ish), charge the battery overnight then jump it by towing it, dunno if it works on automatics
or you could just give the starter a whack with a hammer
youll need to disconnect the egr plug aswell or it will just keep logging faults in the ecu. just follow the vacuum pipe off the egr. on the defender its on the wing dont know about the disco
