    Bulkhead TLC Thread

Looking back at some of the photos posted in this thread - I like the idea of re-mounting the doors as a way of checking whether I've got enough adjustment (or if the pillar is within tolerance). That will require me to get the tub back in one piece and mounted properly though... more thinking...

Great set of photos - thanks for posting those. So it looks like I need to get my head around the various layers of steel that are in there, particularly at top of the pillar where I hadn't realised the most forward flat panel went that far outboard behind the pillar. I think the key will be to...

I'm using series 2 hinges that came off the vehicle as they're all in good condition. So do spire clips go in here as well? There's no recess for them, and the old bulkhead parts have captive nuts on the inside of the pillar?

    Wiper Motor Inspection

Thanks gents - sound advice and some great tips from Bobsticle. Sounds like the first thing I need to do is put it back together (kind of) and see if it works! I'll let you know how I get on.

Thanks @Rubins4 - that will explain why I didn't recognise them, my sills fell off when I went near them! @Blackburn that's a good point - one of my next questions was going to be regarding hinge bolt inserts. Obviously the wing connection points use spire clips or similar, but from what I can...

    Wiper Motor Inspection

Hello All, Took my wiper motor apart to have a look inside recently - aside from a lot of old grease it looked OK mechanically, but I'm less of an expert on the electrical side of things. Some advice on whether this stuff looks knackered or not would be very welcome! Thanks in advance! How...

Righto - bit of an update; some sunshine gave me an opportunity to compare the new bulkhead bits to those already on the car. Firstly - what are these for? They arrive with the new bulkhead feet. Next up - driver side. I held the new feet up against the long eye bolt through the current feet...

    Steve's unexpected Series 3 rebuild.

Indeed - finding a good condition spare one of those seems to be extremely difficult; the bottom of the wheel arches are so easy to damage. I will continue the hunt!

    Steve's unexpected Series 3 rebuild.

I was having a think about mine last night, and I've started thinking that bonding it back together rather than trying to spot weld aluminium in my garden might be the way forward. Does anyone know where you can get NOS (i.e. aluminium rather than ABS) tub side panels (wings)? Or someone who's...

PS - Stretch, I follow your build; you're a braver (and more skilled) man than I! Great read though.

A jig does seem like a great idea - I was going to leave it on the vehicle whilst I did the majority of the work to ensure it lined up with mounts, but a frame to maintain spacings (especially when I take out the pillar) could be very handy. The windscreen 'clamp' mount holes (for want of a...

I will - it will just be slow! In the process of trying to move house, so my aim to buy a welder this month is likely to be missed. When some good weather comes lots of photos of measuring, planning cardboard aided design to fill the gap between now and actual progress.

    Steve's unexpected Series 3 rebuild.

Hi Steve - me again! After a 'review' of the state of my current tub (and a fruitless search for a good replacement) I've convinced myself that it can be repaired. This will involve replacing both rear panels as you've done with your RHS, and potentially one of the side panels as well (if I can...

    The rebuild begins!

What are your plans for the seatbox? Mine is in a similar state - I've found some of the repair panels available on line but a lot of the less common bits (so not ends) don't seem so easy to get to. I can't find anyone who might do a whole replacement either. Interested in options as I can't...

Just found the original (petrol) engine number buried in a photocopy of the original log book! That info isn't even in the heritage certificate! #25340886 for anyone interested...

    Series 2 Dreaded numbers game

Just posting back here to highly recommend the DVLA V888 form. For £5 (and a carefully worded letter) they'll give you all the information they have on the vehicle, in terms of ownership and changes. I've managed to piece together the full history of my landy, which given it came with nothing...

    Series 2 Speedo rebuild kit

PS for sealing the gauges/dial housings I ended up with nitrile o-ring cord off eBay. 2.2mm for the bezel to glass seal, and 1.5mm between glass and speedo 'ring' (can't think of the proper name).

    Series 2 Speedo rebuild kit

Just to round this one off - I ended up using some rubber grommets on the light tubes, which fit quite well and have given a good seal. On the back of the speedo I had to use 3 grommets where the rubber gasket was - I had to modify one of the grommets quite heavily to make it fit the speedo...

    Series seats

"My legs go uphill from my arse" is the best description I've seen of it. :-D I get it in most cars, and the best seats I've sat in are racing seats - big bucket and canted back so it straightens your legs and supports them. Not much like a landy.
