Series 2 Picture Request - Wiring Harness Routing

Anyone know the lucas wire colour for a fused supply that is always on?

Series 2 Picture Request - Wiring Harness Routing

Ok I think that makes more sense - so pins 1 and 7 (panel, side, tail) are always joined together. In pos 1 nothing is on (no connection to pin 4, power). Pos 2, everything but head lights are on, and in Pos 3 headlights are on too. I need to double check my switch again - it may work like that...

Series 2 Picture Request - Wiring Harness Routing

All great advice and information - thanks for the replies. I've got some changes to make to my current diagram then! I think I did go overkill with the fuses - but fused relays still sound like a great idea. Out of interest does anyone know why the tail lights are wire up to be on all the time...

Series 2 Picture Request - Wiring Harness Routing

Now that is a good suggestion - it will drastically simplify things I think. What are your thoughts on how to handle the back of the car, particularly brake lights? I'm wondering whether I could also use a similar setup for indicators, although the relay would have to be fairly central in the...

Series 2 Picture Request - Wiring Harness Routing

I guess ideally you would have LH head/brake on one fuse and RH on another - but then you end up with a lot of wires running the full length of the vehicle. I've got an 'in progress' wiring diagram on the go - still some shuffling around to do though..

Series 2 Lights Switch and Dynamo Connections

I've had a look inside the regulator, and aside from the shunt coils being broken and the points rather corroded, it is at least unmodified. At the same time a review of the drawings I made as I stripped the wiring suggest that the alternator does not connect directly to the regulator; rather it...

Series 2 Picture Request - Wiring Harness Routing

Further update! I've not got a dynamo, I've got an alternator fitted... with a regulator! Explains some of the other wires I found.. Not sure what to do not - I like the regulator now I know how it works, but I suspect fitting a dynamo to the 5 bearing diesel is going to be a foolish thing to...

Series 2 Lights Switch and Dynamo Connections

Interesting.. it's a long story - it's a 1969 2A SWB, that started life as a petrol - but in the 90's it was fitted with a 5 bearing diesel. It has a regulator on the bulkhead and was plumbed up via it, although I think with very few of the connectors on the alternator used. When I took it apart...

Series 2 Picture Request - Wiring Harness Routing

Further update I forgot about! There were several 'bonus' switches added to the vehicle when it was converted to diesel - it wasn't obvious what any of them did. It turns out one was added in the driver cubby to control the main/dip beams - was this the 'standard' place to put it? I shall need a...

Series 2 Picture Request - Wiring Harness Routing

Progress! I've manage to turn this: Into this! And lots of pages of this! I think I've managed to work out most of the counter intuitive bits and at least convince myself of what I need to make it work properly rather than the mess I had. Most invaluable on top of the multimeter was the...

Series 2 Lights Switch and Dynamo Connections

Hello All, I'm trying to work out a few things from my current wiring - I'm looking for some help to work out whether my lights switch on the dash is working, and how it should work if it is; also, what Dynamo I have fitted and what the connector/pin out is on it. Any help would be much...

Series 2 Picture Request - Wiring Harness Routing

I think it will end up being very close to one, but it has a petrol dash display and bits and bobs - plus once I'd got it apart it's so simple I think making my own will be a good opportunity to make exactly what I want/need.

Series 2 Picture Request - Wiring Harness Routing

Hello All, I appreciate this has a reasonable chance of turning into a thread full of birds nest photos taken off google, but I wonder if anyone has any good photos of the routing of the wiring harness, particularly in the engine bay? I'm interested in both diesel and petrol 2As. The reason I...

    Bulkhead TLC Thread

Hello All - sorry for the lack of replies. Spent the past 2 months trying to get our house move over the line, so was hoping to do this in a nice new garage. House move doesn't look like it's happening, so now back to thinking it'll get done under a temporary marquee on the drive! Welder has...

Headlamp resto - chrome patina & parts

I think I'm going to give a clear coat a go - figure it's worth a bash and if they fall to bits I'll get them rechromed. Got them back in one piece and pretty happy with them - will put some photos up asap. Added a couple of rubber washers under chrome and it goes together well.

Headlamp resto - chrome patina & parts

Hi All, due to lots of other stuff going on and the weather, I've been relegated to doing up small parts in the evenings. Headlamp assemblies are coming along - new sealed beam units. I've been surprised at how well the light unit rims have come up - wire wheeled and evaporust for a week, then...

    Wiper Motor Inspection

I suspect I will damage something if I try and replace the magnet, but actually getting back to it if I need to at some point in the future is only a few hours work, so I will leave it be. New brushes and back together with a clean and fresh grease it is. Can anyone recommend a source for...

    Wiper Motor Inspection

So now I'm confused - just put it back together and gave it 12v and it spins quite happily; drew about 1A. Is all well, or is it just because there's no load on it? I can only assume that I did a poor job of measuring the resistance between the commutator segments - or fundamentally...
