They say they are LR transmission specialists but don't do oil change on auto box and vcu and bearing change is done by outsider who only works evening and weekend :confused:

...but long and technical. Seems they are saying that it's not worth it, but it may actually be doing some damage. I have always used bio in all my cars with no problems, yet some say it is death to the fuel sytem and engine. Yer pays yer money.........

Whilst it makes some sense, and it looks better with it on, is carting a big heavy spare around worth while ? I have always taken spares out of my cars and carry a can of tyre weld etc and at worst, breakdown cover will sort it out anyway. If you're trying to improve mpg would not removing this...

They didn't mention that ramblers/tourism erode paths etc, especially bad at popular sites. And then there's the money the Nat trust spend on maintaining the sites and paths. Walking boots should be banned from the country side :p

Yes, I'm coming round to that idea also. However, like most things on the internet these days you seem to get a 50/50 split betweens the yes's and no's. Does 2wd save fuel etc etc or does it cause other probs, vibration etc etc Jury is out. Is a new vcu better than a recon, jury is out...

Thanks guys, The only doubt is whether to buy new or recon. Generally, I prefer new to recon, the difference being £120, not too painfull. The question is, "They say" that if not off roading then recon is better as it doesn't bind as much, but implies some drop in performance in 4w drive.

Been reading way too much on these. Would taking FL1 off road once in a while help vcu, (use it or lose it thing). If you don't off road would it make more sense to get a recon as they are more free and if so are they still as good as a new one in winter. Given the problems folk are having...

If you can get hold of some bio diesel and soak it. It strips paint.

Now then. Could well be that I am a complete horses ass, as usual. With a friend and closer inspection it seems the noise is coming from NS wing area which would indicate FBH :doh: Now in my defense I was thinking of the noise (vaccum cleaner) FBH makes when you switch off. Sooo, do you think...

Isn't it a wotsit. Centre piece comes up to release the whole thing then pushes back in to secure it. Same sort of thing for securing wheel arch covers,etc etc

Mine does the same. Assumed it was something to do with FBH possibly.

If it's tiptronic have you tried it in manual, what about kick down, is that working, has gearbox oil been changed ?

Can't see jump start causing problem and it drove for an hour after so maybe just a coincidence. There are cases where ignoring an engine warning light for too long can send car into permanent limp mode, so maybe resetting service indicator may clear it, as 5k isn't a lot. Hopoefully someone...

If that's the front NS arch then that could be the FBH. Fuel pump is in rear OS wheel arch.
