That model is certainly one of the most expensive to run. If you're looking for running value, try a different model

With the great advice here I discovered my vcu was on it's way out. Given this unit is a vital piece of kit and to prevent further damage to other expensive parts, is it worth splitting hairs. If in doubt ( and especially at certain mileage) just fix it, so much easier.

Supper glue, do you use that in the evening ;) Didn't want to stick it in permanently if poss, just in case. Never seen such a connector with orange bellows, they are causing the problem by pushing the plug out. Going to look at gorilla glue, never used it before. Thanks

Bloody stupid plasitic clips. Not usually a problem when they break, but the clip has an orange bellows type connector, so when you push it on it pushes back out. Any suggestions

Is that 2nd hand on ebay or new ? If 2nd hand then be sure it's been tested. Have you thought about getting it reconditioned or swapping for a pre reconditioned. Fitting isn't difficult....if you don't snap it off.

Not something I'd do, most parts not swapable at all, and the others way too much hassle.

Are you sure you have those numbers right ? 030 is for a rover, same engine different but no good for FL. 049 is for FL manual 130 for a auto

Very interesting reading , but are you saying that the water temp sensor is telling the ecu that the water is above the temp it is ?

I'm assuming you have just bought this FL. Was it private or dealer ? If dealer, given the gear box issue and starting problems I'd take it back to them. It's normal to get a 12 month warranty on a properly done head job. There's is no way of knowing if this was a good job or whether it will...

2012 episode, it said it was a new series :eek: So in 3 years I would expect the technology to be even better. The hydro carbons went from 500 odd to 5, that's some difference. Seems a better option than sticking bottles of millers in yer tank. If I had the spondooleys I'd have it done

Don't think it's terraclean. Fuel system is hooked up to a fairly chunky machine and two seperate cannisters on the machine feed fluid around the system for about an hour. Thought the xk8 episode was new. Ha ha, oh dear you are right. Not my fault, they didn't mention a name. Behind the times...

In Jag xk8 episode they used a machine designed to de coke the whole fuel system with outstanding results. Cost £70, but they said the service is not readily available at the moment. Any views ?
