    Timing belt broken, I think...

I replaced the timing belt myself (may have been the cause to begin with) bur as I mentioned above it was running smoothly and then all of a sudden the strange noise and the engine stalls... it was a new belt with tensioner. The only thing I can think of (without having taken the cover off) is...

    Timing belt broken, I think...

Hi all, Well I replaced my timing belt and the motor ran smooth as ever, but as we were driving from a beach in Costa Rica to our next destination I suddenly noticed a stage noise that I cpoldnonly attribute to the timing belt slapping in the housing. On our way to a service station the engine...

Since I love a good challenge figured you all would love to get in on the fun too.... Today I started the Defender up and no funny noise at all... not quite believing my ears I decided to film it for prosperity sake and also to make sure I wasn't going mad..err madder... Ignore the slight chirp...

Temperature gauge drops when turning left

Quick question. Did you use your indicator light or simply turn left? It's definitely a grounding problem - had similar after having the clutch repaired the guys "forgot" to hook up two ground wires to the transmission... One apparently controlled the circuit to the display...

    Question on timing and stuff...

Hi marmaduke, i bought the tool kit with locking pins and other special tools, that's what came out when locking the flywheel and putting the fuel pump locking tool in, woodruff key was at 12 o'clock. The real issue now is the noise though, it kinda scares me since we are in El Salvador with...

Oil from timing belt housing inspection hole?

Hi All, I decided to replace the timing belt and oil seals as it had less than 20k to the 100k kms to go. Now I got that all done I have a new problem which I think is related... If any of you gearheads have any ideas I'm all ears...

    Question on timing and stuff...

Thanks again Paul, I took a small video and posted it up to youtube. It's definitely a new noise not something that was there and we didn't hear it. I am hyper sensitive to all noises anyway especially after 50k and over 500 days driving through the Americas. That noise developed a couple...

    Question on timing and stuff...

That's exactly the problem Paul, I wouldn't have worried too much if it was out a little as it pulls good and doesn't smoke more than normal. I guess the big issue is the strange noise when idling it kind of sounds like a slapping or knocking noise, I've heard engine knock before and it doesn't...

    Question on timing and stuff...

Hi guys, Changed the timing belt and noticed that the cam mark was slightly out. I put it all back together with the marks as they were (looks like one tooth out) and now there appears to be a rattle/knock noise that comes and goes. It's more prominent when the motor is cold once run a bit it...

Oil from timing belt housing inspection hole?

Hi there, We just finished calibrating the valve clearances and I ran the engine warm to see if I had any leaks on the valve cover. I pushed the throttle a bit to engage the turbo a few times and was pleased to see that I had put everything back together correctly. After turning the motor off...

    Swivel pin housing leak

Thanks for the info! We will keep an eye on it, perhaps mix a bit of high temp grease with the oil to thicken it up a bit perhaps that will slow the leaking a bit. Although we are heading into the rainy season in central America I doubt we will be doing too much wading...at least I hope not...

    Swivel pin housing leak

The problem is it first started leaking after I got the oil changed, unfortunately it was overfilled so I am assuming that the overfill in caused the seal to give way, is that a correct assumption? I also haven't been able to find ep oil anywhere the best I can find here in mexico is SAE 80w90...

    Running hot under load!

Yeah I've seen a lot of threads in a lot of different forums and there have been problems from thermo to fan to cracked heads to a timing issue... though I hope to god that if I had a cracked or warped head I would be able to tell with how it's running, what's coming out the tailpipe or what's...
