I am a numpty. It was the spare key I swapped first and it appears the microswitch is missing... no switch, no light, no unlocking. I've just put the new case on my other key and it's working fine. Can you send me details? I'll send my spare off to them. Ta.

Hmmm..... another 'partial success'. All swapped over and the unlock button works but not the lock one. It doesn't seem to shove far enough to hit the microswitch.

The key blade is attached to the fob. If the Ebay ones last a couple of years and are much of a muchness, I'll go for one of those.

The world is not short of '04 Discos at around that price. You really need to drive/inspect it. It's in Burnley, you're in Hinckley. I would step away from this one.

Is the coolant under excess pressure? I've had the same symptoms before albeit on a completely different car (Ford Galaxy) - it was exhaust gas getting into the coolant. This was the first sign of head gasket problems.
