Took the neighbour for a ride and he is convinced its coming from a rear corner - what kind of noise do you get from the brakes when the spring clip goes? and could a noise from the back really sound like its coming from the front sometimes?

Evening all, I am getting a strange intermittent knocking / rattling noise but I cant track down where its coming from. Sometimes it sounds like the front, sometimes the back, can't work out if its brake related, steering related or clutch related - but it does seem worse when turning and sounds...

2006 TD4 and about 108k from what I can remember. So only just run in by the sounds of it haha.

Mine gets about 28 to 30 out of the TD4, but thats round the doors and sitting in traffic. Long run I think I get about 38 to 40 - wondering if I have a problem after reading this?

Wish my Astra was like that - any problems with the glow plug circuit and it throws an error.

If this throws and EML will it not have to be sorted before the next MOT?

+1 for the torque app - I leave the elm327 connected all the time (have one in both my cars) and have the pro app on my phone (wall less than £6 for what I can remember)

Front wiper motor isnt parking correctly when on intermittent, I have to put it on full and then turn it off when it is roughly parked. Is it much of a job to strip these down and fix as I notice you can get a new one from ebay for less than £30.

Mine does about 27ish round the doors (including sitting in traffic) and about 40 on a long run. and most of the time where they say its been converted to 2wd for economy are absolute bollocks, they have been done because of problems with teh vcu/ird/prop

What parts has he offered you? The shaft could have been removed just for an issue with the VCU, but then again it could have fully fubar'd the IRD. Send it back I reckon.

yeah that one needed changing - mine was around 30 seconds from what I can remember.

You dont need to change the VCU when you get the car, it might be fine - just use the OWU test and check it. No point in spending a few hundred quid if you dont need to. Good advice about the tyres though.

Can the rear door mechanism be adjusted, sometimes when I close the door the window goes up, the lock takes - but the door isnt fully shut. I have to unlock it, close it, and lock it again.

The boots aren't overly large mind - so if carry space is something you are needing I would check one out first.

I thought they were always removed for fuel economy purposes? ;)
