    Rust on bulkhead

Wish I could but, I can't afford a MIG welder, I barely get around £120 a month to spare, and I'm guessing this needs to be repaired ASAP

    Rust on bulkhead

Haha aye sadly :( Well, I have never welded before, and I have literally no money, I seen a cheap arc welder I was going to maybe invest in, but again never welded before, and no idea how to remove the bulkhead, so thought it might be better to have a body shop do it, but even at that, no money...

    Rust on bulkhead

Ah damn that would have been brilliant :( I'm just outside Edinburgh though

    Rust on bulkhead

Alright, whats the best way of removing paint, and removing rust/crud?
  5. K

    Rust on bulkhead

How do I replace it though? spot weld gun and a arc welder? do I need to remove the bulkhead?
  6. K

    Rust on bulkhead

Is it a like, high priority issue, or will it be alright if I leave it for a month or two? waiting on getting everything I need to paint her first, will that be okay, or do I need to take action ASAP?
  7. K

    Rust on bulkhead

Ah right, well, I plan to paint her soon, so when i strip her down to bare metal ill take pics, ill remove all the repair pannels too, and hopefully, I pray to god i dont need to take the bulkhead off, and I can see what damage there is, hopefully its not too bad, this is my first landrover, and...

    Rust on bulkhead

Hmm do you think this is something repair shops could do? because I have never welded in my life, and have no knowledge of how to get the bulkhead off In terms of MOT, it passed a few months ago with no advisory's, in the same condition
  9. K

    Rust on bulkhead

Yeah :( The paint on the entire landy is peeling off, and cracking up, and is full of air bubbles, could I weld repair panels over the old? I really can't disassemble everything I would need to to actually replace those parts, i was hoping i could grind back to bare metal, fill it with waxoyl...

    Rust on bulkhead

It's just the corners that seem bad to me, if i did get the replacement panels how would i fit them? and could I just try taking it down to bare metal and hammerite priming them first of all? they still seem absolutely solid, as in can take a hammer blow no problems

    Rust on bulkhead

Hey guys, Today I noticed some rust showing through on the paint of my bulkhead, in the corners on my drivers side, and then the paint easily flakes away, and on the passenger side, the paint is in abysmal condition, I posted a thread before regarding painting, do you think this is treatable...

    Primer for bare metal?

Ah right, I was worried the rust would destroy those parts in a few months, I hope to have this landrover for the rest of my motoring life, I would be gutted if it was just eaten away by rust quite quickly from me buying her, glad I'm just over reacting and don't have it to worry about too much...

    Primer for bare metal?

Ah right great thanks for the info, think I'm over worrying about this then, and the speed of which parts will basically corrode through? I know I have absolutely no corrosion, visable anyway, just a lot of whats seen in the photos, and really its just in the areas in the photos, just wanting to...

    Primer for bare metal?

Alright great, I would prefer to not replace though, think they can be treated? sanded down to bare metal, phosphoric acid treated, primed with hammerite, then painted?
  15. K

    Primer for bare metal?

Aw that would have been great :( Ah right, don't really want to mess with them to be honest incase I break something or mess something up. I uploaded this before in another thread, but these are the visibly rusty parts I was concerned about So would this be okay? or does it need to specify...

    Primer for bare metal?

Ah right, is it acid etch primer, or just etch primer I'm wanting? I'll invest in a DA Orbital sander, 150 grit sheets for it yeah? And as for the small fixtures like tailgate catches, no idea how to remove them if I'm being honest with you, same for things like the jerry can door handles and...

    Primer for bare metal?

So, just to clarify, summary of what to do; 1) Remove paint, with like 150grit sand paper 2) Treat all the rust 3) Prepare the surface with panel cleaner or white spirit 4) Prime with a acid etch primer, and regular anti corrosive primer 5) Top coat of NATO green Use good quality rollers...

    Primer for bare metal?

Yeah, all rusted parts I have coated with ACF-50 for now, so hopefully that will be alright and work, I just hope that I can get a lot of good years out of my landy, completely new to landys and it's my first vehicle, so I don't know too much about them haha, but the chassis seems fine, as does...

    Primer for bare metal?

Fair enough! I'll have photos uploaded on this thread tomorrow morning, as far as I can tell she runs fine, drove her a fair bit, and all seems fine, but ill post pics tomorrow :) Thanks for the help

    Primer for bare metal?

Ah alright thanks for the info! Do you think I'm just over worrying the now though? Right now my landy is SORN and wont be on roads until Summer, there is no rust showing through paint, just some on the door corners and some other bits and bobs, but nothing major that I have seen yet, would you...
