Replacing chip in Freelander 1 key

I have two keys but only one contains a chip. The non chip key works more smoothly in the locks so I would like to swap the chip from one key to the other. Anyone have any advice or videos on how to open the key blank without damaging it?

    Programming Freelander 1 key fob

Is it possible to program your own Freelander 1 v6 year 2000 key fob? The key fob has not worked since I have owned the car. I have found a couple of dry solder joints on the circuit board and repaired them. I have replaced the battery with a new one. I have tried the 'press five times etc etc...

Freelander 1 driver door lock actuator not working with

Hi, I purchased a Freelander 1 a few months ago. The driver's door actuator was a mess and the sill button lost somewhere in the door! I swapped the actuator with one from a donor car. My remote fob does not work but the car locks fine using the key. The sill button rises and falls as expected...

    SRS Fault on Freelander 1

The SRS warning light has been constantly on for the 4 months I have owned my 2000 Freelander 1 V6. I hoped it would be something simple like the under-seat seat belt pre-tensioner connections. I renewed the under seat connectors and took the car to an independent LR service centre to...

Freelander auto gearbox jumping from high gear to 2nd when warm

Just a quick update. I've been driving the car for 8 weeks or so since swapping the solenoids with no problems.

    Cruise control not working

I think I have solved the problem by looking at the old (broken) switch. I intuitively pushed the switch with my thumb which results in a hard click as the retaining plastic pivot pops off/on it's positioning moulding. The switch is designed to be pulled (gently) towards you using the fingers...

    Cruise control not working

My Freelander 1 was originally fitted with cruise control. When I bought it, the steering wheel switch was broken. I have replaced the switch with one from a donor vehicle. The centre console switch LED works OK. I have noticed that the steering wheel switch has a very positive 'click'. Is this...

Freelander auto gearbox jumping from high gear to 2nd when warm

Hi, I sorted the oil level and have now driven the car for about 4 hrs in total. So far so good.

Freelander auto gearbox jumping from high gear to 2nd when warm

Hi again. I changed the reduction timing solenoid as you suggested (in addition to the 2/4 brake duty and the line pressure duty solenoids). I also checked the wiring loom while waggling the noticeable area of wear but all seemed OK. I reassembled everything and topped up the AT fluid. I lost...

Freelander auto gearbox jumping from high gear to 2nd when warm

Once again, thanks for your reply. I guess Rather than trying to remove the cables from the box, I could do a continuity test from pin to pin at the barrel connector while wiggling the wires where the outer casing is frayed. I've made up a couple of wires with female pins and insulated the...

Freelander auto gearbox jumping from high gear to 2nd when warm

Thanks again for your help. I have taken the plunge based on a number of other posts regarding similar symptoms with the jatco gearbox pointing to the 2/4 brake duty solenoid and the line pressure duty solenoid and replaced both of these with two 2nd hand items from a donor/wreck. Yes, I know...

    Auto gearbox fault

Hi, I know this is an old post but my Freelander is displaying very similar symptoms. I am in the process of replacing solenoids and was wondering if replacing the 2/4 brake duty solenoid resolved your issue?

Freelander auto gearbox jumping from high gear to 2nd when warm

Thanks for the quick response. In answer to your questions: When it happens after 30 minutes of driving am I right in saying switching oft the ignition and restarting again... the gearbox then behaves itself and goes back to normal driving? - Yes When it's working ok will it enter and drive in...

Freelander auto gearbox jumping from high gear to 2nd when warm

Hi, As per the post of 7 Dec, the replacement of the shift select switch cured the incorrect display of gear selection at the lever and the dash. Since replacing the shift select switch, Sport mode and hill descent control also now work normally. When first driving (from cold) the gear shifts...

Freelander auto gearbox jumping from high gear to 2nd when warm

OK, so I borrowed an accurate multimeter and repeated the method 1 tests (again with the gearbox cold). Here are the results: Method 1: Sensor resistance limits (connector C0243) Pin 1 - 2 = Turbine speed sensor (513 to 627 ohms) 569 Pin 3 - 4 = Intermediate speed sensor (513 to 627 ohms) 575...

Freelander auto gearbox jumping from high gear to 2nd when warm

I've been away for a week or so and only got back to the car today. I carried out a resistance check by both method 1 and 2 from your previous post. The gearbox was cold ie not driven for some days and the ambient temp was 20 Deg C. My results are to the right of the expected values below...

Freelander auto gearbox jumping from high gear to 2nd when warm

After a few good runs the problem has returned. A couple of comments and questions: Firstly, when the gearbox was working OK, I noticed that the up-change from 2nd to 3rd was sometimes quite harsh. Certainly harder than other changes. Is this typical or something to be concerned about...

Freelander auto gearbox jumping from high gear to 2nd when warm

Hi, Today I cleaned and worked the main barrel connector back and forth a few times. I then ran the car through the hills in 35 degree heat (sorry if you're buried in snow right now) and it performed perfectly. I'll keep my fingers crossed! Thanks for all your help.
