    He vac probs

Hi, I haven't any direct experience to your query but I spotted a good Swedish site with good info on blend motors. Range Rover P38 Maintenance repair improvements and tips learned by experience by ownership. It shows how to fault find, the cable colours and what they do and how to fix them...

    Blend Motor Check

On a long journey when I get bored I 'exercise' the blend motors by turning the temperature right up then right down and then gradually work along the various vent buttons. I figure that sticking with one standard setting will encourage the motors and the flaps they drive to stick as well.

    Alternator

Valeo alternators for 2.5 diesel – I found out quite a bit when considering what to do with mine that was only producing 13.6v. Here goes; There’s various references to 105 and 110 amp alternators but don’t know which was fitted to what model, mines a 105 amp, – but they all look the...

    Alternator

I went through a similar phase before Christmas with my DHSE and Valeo alternator. A good diagnostic tool for £3 is a voltmeter plugging in to the ciggy lighter, like 130605564165 on Ebay. I had a new super sized battery but the alternator was only putting out 13.5 to 13.6 volts. Battery...

    Dashboard Lights

If you don't want to do the job again replace the bulbs with LED ones. They're T5 286 and you can get 10 in green or white for about £4 off Ebay. They tend to be a bit bright for the three in the binnacle so rough up the surface a bit and put a coat of paint on to soften them. They are polarity...

    Diesel Glow Plugs

It is (just) possible to change number 3 behind the injection pump and 5 & 6 at the back without removing anything at all. Getting the cable back on and tightening the terminal nut is very tricky but just possible if you don't want to strip down further. And three good ones will get you started...

613 miles on diesel P38 - can you do better?

Thanks for the replies including the humorous ones! Where I was hoping this thread would go is what else I could do simply to edge a few more mpg's? Things I've done so far; Goodyear Wranglers tyres (18") with good tread running at 38psi all round and good alignment 5/30 fully synthetic engine...

613 miles on diesel P38 - can you do better?

Evening all, Just filled up, 86.75 litres cap to cap with 613 miles driven on a diesel P38A. About 500 motorway miles and the rest around town. A bit close to the bottom of the tank, the last 30 miles were done with the warning light on, RAVE says 90 litres capacity. About 32mpg according...

    Regulator vacuum hose blanked off?

Well..........that explains what that small hose does that was hanging loose from the sensor on the side of my fuel filter. It just didn't look right being open ended. I'd tried to find a connection for it fumbling around under the inlet manifold without success. After reading the above I had a...

    P38 2.5 Plug Relay Faulty?

Mine went from a good starter to reluctant a few weeks back. It was a glow plug problem. I found that I could change number 2, 5 and 6 without removing the manifold. One was OK reading a few Ohms matching the new ones, one of the others was open circuit and obviously duff but the second was...

Help me fix my heated seat! Advice needed (pics within).

I don't know about a classic but the picture of the seat looks the same and the fault sounds the same so I would read directly across from P38 experience. Don't try to unpeel the foam that holds the element down - if you do get it up the element springs up and goes out of shape, not...

Help me fix my heated seat! Advice needed (pics within).

With the weather deteriorating I felt the need to fix my bum heater a few weeks ago. I followed the guidance on the Range Rover site and took the seat out. My P38 is a 2001 and the seat construction was slightly different to that described but the information was a good guide. Like Dogsbody...
