Should I risk buying an older TD4

I needed a vehicle that ticked all the boxes for winter use. 4 seats, fuel economy and the ability to go down farm tracks without ripping the bottom out. I paid just over 2k for my 03 TD4 which I have been more than happy with, I bought the TD4 after researching verious 4x4 I'm not a landrover...

Singvogel, I have the EGR mod on my TD4. I can't find anything on the "dying duck sound effect" would this mod be refering to the whistling sound I have, that I assumed is just turbo whistle. cheers

    It's snowing ;-) ;-)

We have a nice covering here, We will see tomorrow if the Gaylander is up to the mark and can earn its keep. Even though the heater is about as much use as a chocolate fire gaurd. Watch this space could be a Gaylander up for sale this time tomorrow

    TD4 Heater problem

Thanks for the info gents. The engine temp and cooling system seems fine. I do get some heat out of the heater but no volume of air even when the blower is on full. I would expect to be able to dry my hair when the fan is on full power.

    TD4 Heater problem

Gents As the weather turns colder I'm finding the heat in my TD4 getting less and less. This is not due to the fact that the engine temp is low, it seems a lack of air flow is the problem even when the fan is turned up to max. The pollen filter is new. Any ideas would be great cos I is freezing...

    Good positive things about freelanders....

I have had my TD4 for a couple of months now, bought as a winter hack. Can't really fault it, easy and comfortable to drive, meets all my winter needs, room enough in the back for the kit I carry with the ability to go down farm tracks. Better on fuel than a disco also smaller which is a serious...

    New to Freelander

I too am new to the Freelander. I've now racked up just over 1,000 miles. I have learned a great deal from the gents on this site, thanks. My advice would be to check all the levels regular, check the tyre pressures as these can have an adverse effect on the 4 wheel drive train and fuel economy...

    Mpg

    Mpg

Gents, thanks for all the info Ive gained from you all, I've now managed to get my TD4 up to 35 mpg combined. Ive blanked off the EGR, removed the ;chip; and uped the tyre pressure to 32 psi. This vehicle has to work hard and earn its keep. With my last fill up Ive added some two stroke...
