    Valuation for insurance purposes?

£8k agreed...happy with that. Needless to say if the unthinkable happened I'd be absolutely gutted, however at least I could replace her with something comparable.

My Defender got stuck in mud. What did I do wrong?

You say you had your foot OFF the accelerator. Whilst a Jeremy Clarkson POWERRRRRRRRRRRRR approach is not going to help one bit, you also need enough momentum and gas to get you through the tricky bit. Expect some wheel spin in really boggy bits and use some speed to carry you through. TBH if...

    Help with installing extra gauges

Just to say that banjo bolt setup works perfectly. Silicon hose runs up through the bulkhead so the sender unit with its electronics is up behind the speedo where it should stay dry.

    Chequer plate wing tops

What colour are your wheels? IMHO wheels and chequer need to match (unless black chequer on a black vehicle...)

    Chequer plate wing tops

Have to disagree...two very similar vehicles, personally I think the silver chequerplate makes the whole thing "gel" a bit more and makes the wheels look better. And it looks a shed load better than rippled panels/scuffed paintwork! It's a utility Land Rover at the end of the day...

    snorkel type

Looks similar to a Southdown, which is in my opinion better looking with a much neater top. See my avatar.

    Chequer plate wing tops

Perhaps if your truck is cosmetically perfect it's a harder decision, but for me the functionality wins every time. As has been pointed out, an invaluable addition if you do any of your own spannering.

How do I get this off the paintwork?

OP that's looking much better. They do look good in white...somehow all..."official".

How do I get this off the paintwork?

Aw shucks thankyou. First pic was one it was advertised on eBay with when I bought it, second was taken by me this weekend for insurance purposes. Immaculate gravel driveway...well, it's not bad, just spoiled a bit by a mysterious black stain that for some unknown reason seems to come out of...

How do I get this off the paintwork?

Autoglym intensive tar remover to remove the actual residue. And then buy a slow start "big angle grinder" style 240v polisher, Farecla G3 polish used with plenty water...keep the mop wet. It will remove the discolouration. Same truck, same paint and an hour or so with a machine polish (OK...

    Show me your Raptor dash!

Well, I finally got mine installed and I'm quite happy with it. I wanted something that would be really "cohesive" and look reasonably "factory" so I went for ally, to pick up on the gear knobs etc, and there will be some more ally trim coming down the line. Ditto binnacle surround too...just...

    Essential security features?

Diskloc. At the end of the day you'll never stop someone if they really want to steal it, however it's a very visual deterrent and it also looks very dodgy if you are seen trying to remove it!

    Help with installing extra gauges

Going for a different approach on the boost gauge. There's a helpful bolt which does nothing on the 200Tdi plenum chamber. I've checked the threads and ordered an M12x1.5 banjo bolt with a 4mm banjo fitting and will take the feed from there...closer to the action too so will give a truer...

    Help with installing extra gauges

Hi guys Need a bit of help with buying some bits to install some cheapo eBay special Chinese gauges. This is as follows: 1-Oil pressure gauge. I already have an oli temperature sender (1/8NPT) which goes onto the oil filter housing. I think I need a T piece so I can install the pressure...

    Series 3 Confused about seats

Early 90/110s (pre Defender) had SIII seats...mine did when I got it, and I swapped to later Defender ones. There are two types of Defender seat base, the early type has 8 bolt holes per seat which lines up with SIII seats, the later ones just 4. Not sure what you paid for your new seats and...

Thanks for the replies all. I'm going to send the paperwork and photos off for 8k and if they disagree they will advise me and reduce the premium accordingly. Fingers crossed!

    Tdi or td5?

My understanding... Little to choose between 200 and 300. Very similar power, although an engine transplanted from a Disco will make slightly more. 300 quieter than 200, although arguably more prone to going wrong (still rare though). Some 200 spares (cylinder head) getting harder to find...

    Valuation for insurance purposes?

Yeah, that's kinda where I thought, but again there's a big variation there between £5k and £7.5k I guess. It's certainly not immaculate...but far better than roadworthy. Presentable is probably about right. Interesting on the engine swap issue...I never knew that. Out of interest, if it had...

    Valuation for insurance purposes?

Guys I'd like an idea of what my 110 is worth. For those of us bored with the constant stream of similar threads on some of the Defender Facebook groups, I can confirm that my vehicle is 100% not for sale, however I have an option of an agreed value insurance policy which I am about to...
