Have been planning out the roof rack. This was a £50 Fleabay bargain so now we dont mind spending a bit on it to make it really usable. Missed out on a Brownchurch expedition rack but that was over £300 so reckon with stuff to hand and a B & screw down the road we could make something good...

Best place to hold a spare wheel

Mines on bonnet, and agree it looks weird when its not fitted, though lighter bonnet to lift is nice. Pretty sure theres nothing illegal about it at the moment and if the vehicles designed for it then even with law change it will only effect new cars.

Do you look like your Land Rover?

Mines reliable (fingers are crossed) mature, dependable, full of character .........its also a bit slow at times and needy, so in some ways maybe similar characteristics :)

    Battery keeps going flat

Leaky diode bridge in the alternator can cause it. Take fuses out, remove live terminal off the battery and put a meter in series between the battery terminal and the live cable set on current, if it shows a reading then its discharging through the alternator as thats the only thing still in...

    Hardening paint to avoid scratches..

Wasnt there some flashy diamond coat polish stuff around that reckoned it prevented paint from light scratches? Dont reckon any polish / paint treatment will work against brambles

    Defender swap for series 1

Can see what ya thinking, but reckon you would still end up having to buy another Fender for practical use. Keep the Fender and save up for a Series :)

    Just ordered a Defender

:welcome2: NICE! ok its a transit motor, but I reckon they are fine, just a bit too complicated for me. However you will have ya Defender! loads of fun :) Pedal locks a must, and tbh on a new one trackers well worth it! you can get some pretty ok ones that you fit ya own sim card in for around...

So after giving up with the drop arm joint until I get a better puller, we took her for a wee test drive...NICE... tyres felt nice and grippy and the drive was smoother with less clunks. There was an irritating swishing type noise that has also now gone, reckoned this was either the failing UJ...

While awaiting the UJ to turn up I replaced 2 track rod ends, old ones came apart quite easily, but the pigging steering drop arm was a total utter twunt!!! Managed to get the ball joint split and with gurt socket and arm got the securing nut off that holds the arm to the steering box but even...

Has the bloke in Halfords got it wrong??

Their bike departments are just as crap, mate was told his rear cog set was shagged as some teeth were a different shape......idiots He only asked them as he had just bought an as new road bike off someone. He asked me before shelling out good money, when I checked the set they were perfect and...

Good and bad day... UJ's turned up and managed to break the first one by failing to notice that a needle roller had slipped DOH! Anyways at least that was the first one so made sure all the others were fitted ok. The new brake slave cylinders also turned up so thats the rear brakes fitted with...

    200tdi starter motor not engaging-nothing.

+1 Mine started doing that too, every now then just a click, cleaned the little connector and sorted it straight away :) Worth checking out the whole list the guys suggested as all will probably need cleaning up

    2.5NA coolant boiling

Its not a bad job on the NA, usually takes a bit of patience getting the head free from the block but its not a hard job. Just be careful to make sure all the rocker gear stays together when you lift it off, you can fix it to the rocker cover to keep it all in order. Make sure you clean all...

Managed to get the local garage where I get my MOT's done to press the "A" frame ball joint in for the cost of a beer, so pleased with that! Pic shows joint in place next to front propshaft that has been stripped. Middle pic shows how I removed the UJ's, so now have both Propshafts fully...

Suprised at how much play that old joint now had! so although a few months ago it was deemed ok in reality it was starting to fail. The next saga was to replace a worn UJ and now decided to replace all 4 as although there was only play initially in one of them, they all are likely to be the...

And now with pics, comparing new to old. My ball splitter tools just wouldnt quite fit so luckily a drift and hammer worked to get the units separated quite easily. Then to get the joint out the arm without a press I used hefty spare vice against a block of stone and a lump hammer after...

Now the 110 passed the MOT as although the boot was split it didnt have play on the joint and dirt hadnt ingressed .......however that was in March, now look at the state of the boot!

So with brakes abandoned for now thought I would tackle that rear A frame ball joint. Haynes manual says remove upper link arms too, but I managed by supporting axle on stands then just jacking the body via the chassis a tad just to get the bolts out from the ball joint mount / link arms. This...

Got the new shoes in on one side, moved them in against the slave cylinder and heard a squirt...doh! I had caught the boot getting the old shoes out, but main prob is fluid shouldnt even get behind the dust covers, so in a way glad its found now. Checked the other side and although not leaking...

A while ago I did the offside rear wheel bearing and noticed that one brake adjuster wasnt quite working, so replaced it and found it still lacking. So thought would change it and sort it out when I changed the shoes, so stripped both hub covers off and removed the brake shoes. Bit dirty...
