TD4 Auto in-gear acceleration causes judder...?

Remapping the TD4 FreeLander is common as hell. I know a few people who have had it done and loads of Land Rover specialist garages around here offer it. I don't think thats the problem... I think something is worn/faulty. Of course the remap may be aggrevating it more / early.

TD4 Auto in-gear acceleration causes judder...?

Hi All. We have a 2004 TD4 Auto (Sport) and in-gear acceleration under load causes judder through the whole car. For example... if the car is in 5th at 50mph (1700rpm ish) and you're going up any sort of hill/incline and try to accelerate enough that the engine can pull but not enough...

Would a Freelander handle the same way ??

What the f*ck! The stupidity of that is amazing.

    TD4 MAF Sensor

I don't think its a boost problem. Once it 'goes' it 'goooesss'. Its the bottom end thats given up a bit (when its off boost).

    TD4 MAF Sensor

with fear of sounding stupid.... How the hell does the rear cover come off the engine. I can see the oil fillter cap will need to come off first - but even then with the 3 screws out it won't budge. Looks like a pipe on the right hand side slots into it!?

    Freelander Rolling Radius...

Right... I like the 18" alloys on the FL sport, but the tyres they come with are 235/50/18 which really does hinder choice of tyre. The tyres I want come in 235/60/18 (closest match) and I calculate that means the speedo will be out by 4.75mph at 70 - that said, it could be adjusted anyway...

    Buying a 2.5 V6i petrol.

Just to voice my experiances... as i've driven a V6 Petrol (Auto), Xdi (Rover Diesel) Manual, TD4 (BMW Diesel) Manual and own a TD4 Auto Sport A FreeLander with Traction Control and Automatic makes a fool out of a manual freeLander - it really is worlds apart. The effective differential...

    Freelander TD4 Lack Of Power

Our TD4 has never seemed very punchy above 3k/rpm. Is this normal on these engines? Ours is remapped so I expected more... and getting from 3300rpm to redline takes FOR EVER - although its very punchy low down. When I rev it (stood still) you can hear the turbo, but, I think I can hear air...

    2005 td4 hse

Seems I just got lucky with our spec, as I bought it second hand. Sport Premium also came loaded with Harman Kardon 9 speaker sound system with Sub-Woofer under the floor in the boot. Keeps me happy :)

Freelander HDC in snow and ice

I suspect you engaged HDC at speed - which will no doubt send you sideways. As stated by other people here, completely stop before using it. That said, I prefer to use the steptronic / manual transmission in our TD4 auto in the snow to simply use the engine to slow the car down. Didn't have any...

    TD4 MAF Sensor

Hi All. I've a friend with a very sluggish TD4 and I suggested pulling the MAF. I've just been outside and popped my bonet in the hope of sending a photo and low and behold, i've not got a clue. On my Passat and my girlfriends car its very obviously on the pipe after the airbox... also is on...

Simmilar spec to our 3dr Sport Premium... just without the shake your bones suspension. You'll love it. You'll stuggle to find a blank button anywhere!

Is anyone out there happy with their FL ??

Very happy with ours. No problems yet, knock on wood. Chose the best engine of the lot IMHO from a reliability point of view - the BMW enginered TD4. My father had one (TD4 SE 5dr) and it did 150k miles without any major work, good enough recommendation for me. Our TD4 Sport Premium 3dr has...

    Fun in the snow?

Just a point... What people seem to forget about the Freelander is its traction control is nothing like traction control on a car. Traditional sense of the technology traction control on a car is to take away the power to stop wheels spinning. The Freelander TC isn't really traction control -...

    Fun in the snow?

Had no idea about the windows... tried them a few times frozen and thought nothing of it - seems they've survived fine. I'll not use them in future without hitting them with some de-icer!

    Re-maping

Speak to Mark at: Chip 'N' Spin - ECU Tuning. He's an approved ChippedUK dealer (mobile) and has remapped my old Passat 1.8T, girlfriends Bora V5, my current Passat 4.0 W8 and our FreeLander TD4 Sport - all with very good and reliable results. Say I sent you... you might even wing a discount :)!

    freelander TD4 low power

Hi Guys. Reading this with a bit of interest... what sort of airflow figures should I be seeing on the live data through the MAF? I can read it off via OBD, but i've no idea if my figures are "normal" !

    Fun in the snow?

I have to say, ours (TD4 Auto Sport Premium) has been good too - although it has the ability to put the tail end out if your on the power a little too early coming out of a corner. I can imagine the additional power from the remap is helping that. Nothing uncontrollable though - and it climed...

    Aftermarket fitment of cruise control?

Hi All. Does anybody know if its possible to fit, or have fitted, cruise control to a 2004 FreeLander TD4 Sport Premium? The car has every single electrical toy on it, bar cruise control. There is even a blank plastic button next to the parking sensors master switch, which I am told is where...
