Hi also a bit late to reply from me but south of Pontivy, Morbihan. I have a Classic Range Rover 3.9 Vogue 1990 and Defender 2.5tdi as per photo. Love Landrovers and happy to see other folks that feel the same.
Just watched the above video on You Tube and it helped me understand the fuel system a little bit more.
A couple of things I noted in watching was:
check fuel hoses
check pressure regulator - as rough running when engine idle - could be a cause.
Fuel coolant - I think one of you mentioned the...
Hi Guys, Have just been listing all the comments on this thread and basically the below is the list I shall give to Ian the Mechanic on Monday to check:
Check injector seals and washers
Check injector harness
Check diesel return valve in Fuel filter
Check fuel filter and fuel filter housing...
Hi again Shippers,
Over 2017 have been flinging money at the Defender and we could probably have bought a good 2nd hand car! I have never owned a brand new car; always preferred the classics and my RRC V8 3.9 1990 (named Eddie after Absolutely Fabulous) is one of my loves. She has problems too...
Sorry to upset you Oldseadog! But he is definitely a HE - he is big, brutish, brawny - well perhaps I could call him a HE/SHE:D
But saying that you are right as IT is a pain in the nether regions at the moment (albeit me being of the female persuasion!)
I always ask Dirty Dog to bring me home...
Hi Shippers, Yes I know - it is a shame really as it brings down the whole mechanical and building industries. I don't have much choice at the moment as have tried 2 Landrover garages - both bad news. One put back a CV joint on my RRC Classic without packing it with grease, the other a big...
Hi Neilly,
Well will tell Ian the mechanic (an English mechanic with 20+ years of experience - let's hope he can sort it out!) this - as sounds pretty much like my problems. Thanks. On my first glass of lovely french wine and it doesn't feel so bad!:D
Well Guys - Dirty Dog is officially ill now! Won't even fire, turns over.
He just cut out as I was slowing up to a T junction, so rolled to the side of the road. After about 10 minutes I managed to fire him up and we travelled for about 5 miles when he cut out again at a roundabout junction...
Thanks for all the comments guys, will check back in later to see if you have any further ideas. List is growing longer but much cheaper than parting with over 3K euros for a new cylinder head. x
:eek:Amazing - perhaps they were using it to cut the lawn:) Another think to look at. Noting all these things - if I can do them then I will get my hands dirty - others I may have to leave a mechanic to do ! Thanks again
Hi Brown, I wouldn't be surprised if is dirt or sediment in the tank - here in France the petrol and diesel is pretty SH*T at the supermarkets! I don't think it would have been a previous driver as it was owned from new by an environmental council in Scotland until it came to rest here in France.
