Is it still not starting. What loom was causing the issue?

Totally agree. That’s great that you ruled out the timing but bad it didn’t improve. For the time it takes to adjust the pump you have safely ruled it out. The only problem now is – what way forward. I have had pumps come back where the timing has been a Knats dick out and I...

Don’t forget to try the inertia switch in the drivers kick panel. Push the button down on the top. Listen for click.

That is the box defaulting because of an issue. The instrument cluster will display gearbox fault even if the battery is a bit low on cranking but with the running issue and the light missing then it really is logging faults. What loom was causing the issue?

    lights fault on dash

A common earth problem is the one from the Becm to the floor. As you look at the Becm fuse box it’s the black cable far left. It is about 9in long and comes loose on the floor just under the carpet. As Fanatic mentioned above with the spray. You would be amazed by how many faults can be...

Lol :) If it’s between setting a P38 straight or setting a women straight, id take my chances with the P38 every time. I haven’t found the female diagnostic socket yet, to upload and reprogram

Gavbriggs is right there, there is nothing that has to be set on the crank sensor. The engine Ecu has crank phases that it sets over time. After so many start and stops and drive cycles the engine ecu monitors the crank sensor and sets each crank phase. 1,2 and 3. It uses this for accurate...

    Freelander injection pump

You need to undo the 4 bolts on the cam pulley, FIP end of engine, and tweak the pulley about 1-2mm in a clockwise direction as your looking at the pulley. Torque them up to 25nm and run it up. If slightly worse undo again and move to original position and then 1-2mm in the anticlockwise...

    Freelander injection pump

Sorry missed your post there: I guess the question is do you trust your pump supplier? - Totaly agree, this is what it all boils down to. In response to ste220 post: No but what I am saying is there is always going to be a difference between static and dynamic timing. I haven’t had...

    Freelander injection pump

No, the system isn’t that clever. The start of injection has got to be spot on. Modern HDI systems will retard or advance through the electronic injection duration but with this one, once it’s set that’s it. It’s a bit like a petrol distributor. The vacuum advance will...

    Freelander injection pump

I would still put my money on the pump timing. I have had so many pumps from Diesel specialists and they only need to be 1 degree out and they will hunt, smoke, pink. I had 1 highly regarded diesel specialist tell me that a pump couldn’t fail on 2 cylinders and wanted to send it back as ok...

    Freelander injection pump

When you fit a pump that has been timed up, you may still have to adjust it to get the timing spot on. I agree that it should be timed by a specialist once fitted because timing it as I said (moving the pulley) is a crude way of doing it. But if he was going it alone with no equipment, then...

How have you got on with your non runner? First thing I would probably do if you haven’t already is a good hand and eye check on all the gas wiring and make sure nothing has broke or come loose. Sometimes the wiring can be spliced into the coil wires for an RPM take off. What sort of Gas is fitted?

You can now fine tune your pump timing. Mark all the pulleys up so you have a reference point. Now undo the pulley on the pump end of the engine and rotate the pulley a fraction, about 1 tooth and lock the pulley back up. Start it up and see how it runs. You will not know in the beginning if...

    air flow meter

If the motor has been running rich or the plugs started to break down then the coil starts to suffer. When coil charges up it still has to release it to ground so if it can’t do it through the leads and plugs it starts to get very hot and they will discharge through the body of the coil...

    Sparking problems

That’s great that you sorted it out. The Ht leads do not restrict flow in any one direction though. The King lead has different ends and depending on how deep the neck of the coil is, the lead doesn’t make contact. Swapping it around made a good contact. It’s good that your grief is over.

    Door locks P38

What happened to lifting the cdl latch with a welding rod and then releasing the door with the interior release cable latch on the door lock actuator? It works every time as long as it hasn’t been super locked No cutting, no braking, no sawing

That’s the wrong way to go about it and it’s the fastest way to empty your wallet. You can’t safely say that until they have been tested. What colour are the plugs on the suspected failed bank.
