    General observation

Unfortunately it's people like that that meant I don't have difflock on my early TD5 - too confusing on the 900yard journey to the school gates and back :D

    dicovery back door lever

The mechanism obviously doesn't work if the lever is partly up, I would start with a generous amount of WD40 on the whole lot, accessed behind the land rover badge I beleive, and through the latch mechanism itself, and see where that gets you.

    General observation

I wouldn't be put off looking at a shopping trolley, chances are they get 'put in' for servicing and haven't been trashed off-road pulling 5 tonne farm trailers. You could always get a hefty discount for not having looked after transfer box..........

    Discovery Clunk?

The steering box will creak alot without the engine running and may do so with it running a bit, If that ball joint is shot you will see lots of play in it side to side before the link arm starts to move, alos your steering will be vague when driving. Replacement is generally for a specialist...

200 tdi Disco valve clearance problem

I've not come accross an engine without them fitted, but would make sense in many ways, definitely wouldn't expect a 100k engine to have worn that much without making a hell of a racket and burn oil like piper alpha. You've just got to hope that they were left out at a rebuild on 98500 miles...

    Lenient MOT

It's still sposed to go on the ramp, even if they haven't got a 4wd rolling road setup, for inspection.

    Lenient MOT

Just got back in my defender 90 200 tdi this morning to get it ready to sell and it goes sooooo nicley now I've done so much too it, and the gearing is better suited to the towing I do, but isn't enough space for me, my oppo and my dogs. Perhaps a donor 110 double cab rolling chassis and engine...

    Lenient MOT

Kinda lost faith in the vehicle now which is a shame, so thinking about fixing everything up and selling her on, hopefully getting my money back in the process.......

    Lenient MOT

The MOT in my disco 2 was less than 2 weeks and 200 miles old when I bought it, and so far the following has been replaced / repaired / waiting to be done this weekend, how many are actually MOT failures? Collapsed UJ in front Prop Front Discs with 1.5 - 2.0mm lip at edge CV Boot knackered...

    Need some info and Help

Just doing the downpipe without replacing the whole system could make performance worse not better. There is a lot more to be gained with 200 & 300 Tdi's from a large intercooler + more fuelling, as even a complete system won't increase performance by much without doing these 1st.

    Strange Electrical Problem

Just becasue a relay clicks doesn't mean it's working - electro-magnet might work but if the relay contacts are black/corroded the connections might not be being made - put a tester on it in/out to be sure.

    Td5 centrifugal filter spin-down whine

That's a bit like - 'does the fridge light really go out when you shut the door' - trying to work out if it's actually spinning. In situ there is not much movement available up and down (with cover on), so long as it span freely at all positions within it's vertical range, I wouldn't worry...
