Does the problem occur when you remove the fascia?? Try it overnight and that will be easier than disconnecting the unit.
A cheap alternative would be to pull the radio fuse at night until you can fix / replace.

I had the exact same problem - and even replaced the rear diff. Turned out to be a wheel bearing. In the end I went to my LR dealer, who diagnosed for free and quoted £246 per side fitted. I got a local independent garage to replace both rears for £170 all in.
Its really difficult to diagnose...
Sounds like you need your steering wheel locked in the straight ahead position and your tracking (alignment) adjusting.
Have you got any unusual tyre wear??
Thanks Buddy!! - I made a lot of mistakes mismatching Rover / LR head units / cd changers over the years so know what works with what!!
Hope your keeping well matey!!

I got mine from Philips / VDO when they had an outlet in Sheldon, Birmingham. It has since been closed for at least 5 years.
However - the lead fits only the R950 units (with their own display) - i dont think it would work on your model!!
One possible solution is to make connections to the...
Just to second - they fit all frelander 1 models from 1997 - 2006 perfectly. They are a lovely wheel, but tyre prices are very expensive - mind you I'd still buy a set if they were reasonable!!

I can do 375 miles for £60 - £64 - I am lucky as my daily commute is along 60MPH country lanes. I can get a similar value on a motorway run, but the fuel consumption rises in start / stop traffic.

Dealer job I'm afraid - or someone who knows about mileage correction.
Had the same problem say 8 years ago. Changed the instrument cluster and odometer would not increase - the flashing was there too. I drove for about 6 months until I could afford to get it put right. The BECM had been...
17" and 18" (sport) freelander 1 wheels will fit all freelander 1's regardless of year. You wont need any spacers, nor will you have any clearance issues - they just bolt straight on using the existing wheel nuts and centres.

They are a genuine option on the V6 models. I got mine for £45 off ebay!!
They do fit the 1.8 and 2.0, but the contour of the bumper is slightly different. (Can hardly tell)

Well finally plucked up the courage to run the tank low (keeping 5 litres in the boot for emergency)
The light illuminated and I was able to cover 12 miles to the nearest filling station.
See pics attached - look how far the needle drops below the white line even though 5 litres still...
Dean - Sounds just like my freelander when purchased. Turning over ok, fuel present, but no combustion.
Turned out the head was warped in a banana shape. It was ever so slight, but caused the engine to fail.
Go with the TD4 option - sounds like a great plan and I might be interested in a...
I will in future as I will be on the last 5 - 7 litres :)
Ironically - the fuel was still clean right to the last drop. I guess the filter is working well.

Steve
Good figures, but when the pointer is in the red section, I have covered 70 miles and found 8 or 10 litres left!!
The Technozen solution allows you to use more fuel up between refuels.
