    Inside a PG1 Gearbox - Help!

Make sure you only buy a Freelander PG1 as the other types (Rover cars) will not fit your IRD input spline. A diesel unit would work on a petrol vehicle and vice versa. Regards, Steve

    alu side steps fitting

They do push in to the holes, but you have to crush them so that they swell in the hole. You can make a simple tool to do this - it is pictured in the instructions in your email inbox :) Regards, Steve

    Freelander Diff Problem

Ok matey - just checking. I sold my fully working one for £112 on eBay. I started at £50 as some have sold for as little as that. Another option is to remove the diff, VCU and propshafts as well as rear propshafts from diff to CV joint. This would render your vehicle 2WD, but should solve the...

    alu side steps fitting

They should have brackets attached to the steps that fit under the vehicle. You will also need to obtain some Rivnuts as there are simply holes under the vehicle with no thread for the bolts to fit into. Can you PM an email address and I will see if I can get a copy of the instructions to you...

    Freelander Diff Problem

Be wary: I had a similar problem and it turned out to be a wheel bearing after I had swapped the diff over. Luckily I obtained a reasonably priced rear diff, but still took 4 hours to swap over on my drive!! Jack the rear and spin the wheels to check exactly where the noise is coming from...

    Freelander rear diff noise?

Sounds more like a wheel bearing. Whats the mileage on your vehicle?? at 110,000 mine had a similar noise - turned out to be a wheel bearing after I had changed the diff!! Try jacking up the rear and turning the rear wheels. If you hear a slight grinding noise - suspect the bearings...

    Aftermarket Subwoofer Installation

I have run my power cable from the battery positive through the rubber grommet on the bulkhead battery side. I simply made a small cut with a stanley knife and then taped my power lead (1cm thick) to a wire coat hanger. I then fed the wire coat hanger through the grommet and pulled it as it...

    central locking

I second this - very common problem. Changed my drivers door latch 3 years ago and all working ok.

Back Freelander Seat stuck in the up position

Normally the ball type part of the release cable pulls through the plastic lever. Try using a pair of long nosed pliers to grab and pull the cable. Push the seat forward with your other hand and then it is much easier to rectify when folder partially. I slipped a small piece (1cm x 2cm) of...

    Can I use Van tyres??

My Colways have lasted well, I have covered 4,000 miles and only worn 1mm off the tread. A set in 255/55 R18 lasted me 32,000 miles and these were only £50 per tyre!! Thanks for your advice - when the are worn (prob 3 years or more) then I might just try some van ones.

    Freelander bushes

You can change a front diff bush in about half a hour. I reversed onto some small ramps, undid the 2 rear bush mounts a little to allow movement and then jiggled the front bush out whilst pushing the diff to one side with my other hand. It will be noticable if worn - mine was shot to pieces and...

    Can I use Van tyres??

A question that has been puzzling me.... I have seen Van tyres in 195 80 R15 fitment - Are these safe to use on a freelander with 15" alloys?? I can see that they will be almost useless on mud / wet grass, but looking for excellent life on road. My builder friends have done 60 or 70,000...

    Freelander bushes

You can buy a full polybush kit to replace all the suspension bushes around the vehicle..... Or you can get polyeurathane bushes for the rear diff - i have seen these on eBay for about £11 each. It sounds like your front diff bush is allowing excessive movement and the flange is touching the...

    Tyres ?

The make / model of tyre won't make any difference. If you are going to fit a set of four new tyres then you will be fine. I fitted an A/T set in April / May time. Tread depth 11mm. My fronts now have 10mm and the rears 11mm (after 4,000 miles). This is keeping my transmission happy. Just...

    Freelander exhaust ? or not

No worries mate - A full cat back system delivered to your door for £70 all in and guaranteed for two years is a bargain. I plan to do the same when its no longer viable to patch / repair.

Michelin Synchrones - now on sale, sort of.

Thanks for the 'heads up' - they do seem to last a long time (circa 40K) if looked after, so much better value than cheaper brands that last half that!! Regards, Steve

    Newbie question

LR manual states 26PSI all round. Most users here run at 30PSI all round. I find that my tyres last longer and the vehicle handles better at this slightly higher pressure. As for the switches - it could be the bulbs, although they do tend to last ages. Might be worth buying a new switch on...

    Freelander exhaust ? or not

Chris, Have a look on eBay - they are selling Freelander centre sections and back boxes for £59.95 plus £10 delivery. (inc 2 Year warranty) I'm planning to buy one of these when mine finally becomes too worn out to repair. Regards, Steve
